Default Weak notice on Ka this AM. WTF?

This AM on my normal commute to work, I encountered 2 LEO's. One was a State Trooper pulled to the side shooting C/O Ka on the opposite side of the highway facing traffic on my side. The Ka warning didnt seem to be too much before I reached him and I was kind of disappointed. But 5 minutes later as I exited the highway, I came down the ramp and up the hill a bit there was a town cop pulled over at a 90degree angle from the road which is a fairly slight incline from where you come off the highway. He was well within eyesight on Corys Lane long before I received an alert. As I passed it seemed as though he was shooting C/O Ka straight across the road as opposed to down the road where we were exiting the highway. Is this why I didnt have much warning? You can see from the two locations that it didnt give much prior warning (approx 1000 ft)

I see your 9500 has been returned. Is it the same unit? I have read some of your posts. I too, would be a bit disappointed if my unit functioned as yours.

I have not had any problems with my 9500. I get way to much, if that is a problem, advance notice with my unit. I, however, live in a sparsely populated area and no city driving whatsoever.

I have received warnings up to a mile away. There are rolling hills and many curves on my roads. Strait highways are far and in between.

Can you try another unit or use it in a different car in a different location in the car?

My 9500i was returned ONLY because of a firmware issue where the left half of the digital screen was remaining blank until reset. Apparently its a known problem. They sent me a brand new one. I've had it back since this past Thursday when I'd reported weak notice on a K band sign. I'm not blaming the 9500i for this, because for all I know it could've been the specific situations each time, but its a little wierd that 3 different situations were weak notices. I wish all my driving was highway..it'd be MUCH easier to deal with avoiding LEO's for the most part.

    Radarkid,
That is exactly why you did not get much "advanced" warning. Ka band is tough enough to detect from straight on let alone a 90 degree angle.

x2. the 90 degree one sounds normal. The other one depends on allot of factors.

I've noticed that the NEWER LEO Charger's in our area have extremely powerful Ka radar. I pick them up further away than others, and the detectors go ballistic as you/they get closer. They must've souped up the Dodge Chargers with the top of the line equipment, and the older Crown Vics have older technology.

Even the State Troopers (all Crown Vics) seem to have less strength for Ka than the local town LEO's with the Chargers.

Use Spec mode for a while to find out what frequency, than you will know what they are using.

when you say "what they're using" you're referring to the type of radar gun? next time I encounter a LEO in a Charger (and I remember) I'll write down the frequency. You'll have to educate me on what frequencies they all run on...I'm unaware....is it that exact of a frequency that it won't drift like the automatic doors?

For example my local uses 34.7 which is a stalker gun. The 9500I is a real champ with this very popular and sophisticated gun. All my troopers use 34.7. There can be some fluctuation but usually not much, a LEO's gun has to be accurate.
