Correct, so it would not make sense to buy a red one and do that, unless you love red.

Make sure you specify when you send in your unit to be upgraded, specifically to keep the red leds....

I would guess the the performance would be on par to the 9500's.

As for buying one used and then upgrading that is an option, but make sure it still has a serial number attached.

na. I'm not impressed with the ramp up. I think a STi w/ the ramp up fix is in my future.
