Default Re: 9500IX: Strange Ka Falsing

Sorry to bring up this thread again, but my 9500ix is still falsing on ka about once a day..with POP mode on, it registers as a POP false. In spec mode, the frequency can be anywhere from 33.6 to about 35.4. The alert sounds something like this: 5-5-5-5-3-3-3-1-1-1-1..and dies out. Is anyone else having this problem with their IX? And pop is not used in my area, and this happens too often to be cobra falses

If POP isn't used in your area... why not turn it off?

You would be shocked how many junk RD's out there will cause such a false alert on your RD. I say try POP off and see if they go away, if they do they are most likely just junk Cobras and such.

I agree with AirMoore. Turn pop off and see if that fixes your problem. I have two 9500ix's and neither do what you're saying, unless I have pop turned on.

The only reason i turned pop on is to see if that would fix or eliminate the problem. With POP turned off, thats when in spec mode i get the weird Ka frequencies..ive had POP off ever since I bought it i just turned it on to see if the RD would act any different. FYI, i've had an X50 6.3 before and it never did this even once in 2 years

Have you tried it in a different car?

That's strange that you're getting Ka falses. I went on a long trip and spent 9 hours in the car on each leg and my 9500ix falsed a lot on the K band. It wasn't door openers because it would false on the open road in remote areas where there was nothing but forest on each side of the road. Something in some of the cars must have caused it is all I can figure out. This is where I miss V1's arrows, to see where the signal was coming from causing the false.

In researching the problem I did read that some Passports seem to have a falsing problem when you first get them and it was recommended that you do a factory reset. I'm going to do that and see if it solves the problem. I do know K band is working fine because this morning I picked up an alert and discovered city police hiding in the bushes down the road.

Do you have the latest software? If not, you might want to upgrade. Regardless, you might want to try a factory reset and see if that solves your problem. I'll report back later on whether it solved mine too.

    Hi 99Civic,

Double-check your hardwire connections -- especially any crimp connectors for power and ground. Very slightly flaky power due to a poor crimp connection can cause the random falsing. So rule this out first. If you have an AC adapter for your 9500ix, try taking it into your house and leave it powered up for a few hours to see if it randomly falses on Ka and and somewhat random Ka frequencies. If you recently bought a new cell phone, then power it off if you get random Ka falses while doing the test inside your house. If the Ka falses stop when you turn off any new cell phone, then the cell phone is the culprit. If you still get random Ka falses then your 9500ix will need to go back to Escort for service. I have an idea what the problem could be, but it isn't something which the end user can fix themself. At least Escort' techs can fix it and the problem won't occur again.

If you don't have an AC adapter for your 9500ix, Radio Shack has their #22-505 AC-to-DC Portable Power Supply on sale for $25 through the end of February. It is fully regulated and safe to use with your 9500ix.

That sounds an awful lot like a Cobra but if it isn't then whatever. I have tested my ix and Cobra side to side and the ix falsed at: 33.6, 34.4, 35.2,35.4,35.5 ,35.9. I have it on video. I ought to post it.

I agree. I just thought that I would post stuff to check in order to verify that there really is nothing wrong with his 9500ix.
