Laser falses on Passport 8500 (non-X50)

I have a friend who has a non-X50 Passport 8500. We've been emailing back and forth about radar/laser and RDs and he's mentioned a few times where his 2+ year old 8500 laser falses on the highway once in a while.

I don't know how often it happens, but he seems to mention it at least once a week. Most recently, however, his wife mentioned that when it falses there is often a truck (tractor trailer) nearby.

Has anyone with an 8500 (or X50 for that matter) seen this? Could the trucker's CB radio possibly be the cause? I have an X50 and a V1, and the X50 has never falsed on laser (except in our EZ Pass toll booths). My V1 falses more but it's usually caused by the laser cruise controls in Infinitis.

Is the 8500 more prone to laser falses than the X50?

From what I have seen, the two detectors have exactly the same laser detection physically, however, my X50 falses when I honk the horn, so go figure. I'm not sure if the 8500 does this at all, ask your wife if she was honking at the truck to get him to blow his horn or something.

All my X50 laser hits have been false, AFAIK. CB's do not cause laser faults on the Bels as my CB is only 2 feet below my X50. BTW, my CB is branded FuzzBuster. Go figure.

My friend told me yesterday that he is still seeing laser falses. I might loan him my X50 for a couple weeks to see if it's his 8500 or something in his car (electrical noise?) that's causing it.

I thought I read once that Escorts sometimes laser false when they're about to die? He's never had a Self Cal on his, so I'm leaning more toward the electrical noise theory.
