    Default 9500ix screen glare

I just purchased a Escort 9500ix and really like it. However, the glare on the display screen is so bad that I can't read it during the day. I've tried moving the detector around on the winshield and it seems whenever the detector is level (flat) that glare is present.

I did a search and was surprised that no one had mentioned this before. I really want to keep the detector but will probably return it if I can't come up with a solution. The car I'm driving is a sedan with lightly tinted windows.

I am coming from a V1 which I still own. It doesn't have the glossy screen so glare is not a problem. Also I'm thinking the Red display shows up better than the Blue in daylight.

    I welcome any thoughts. Thanks!

Yes I know your concern..I put a piece of scotch tape (not totally clear type but sorta flat finish) over the screen and that helped.

I was going to suggest sand paper.

That's a good question, and the tape sounds like a good option other than placement. .

Of course you must attempt to diminish the reflective trait of the face.By doing so though you will reduce the quality of the information on the screen..

I bet you could buy those computer reflective screen covers and cut one to go over your display.

Hmm...glare is more of a problem with the blue display covers which are used on Bel/Escort models which have blue LED displays. Glare is much less of a problem with the deep red display covers used for the red LED display models. Interestingly, I have tested a red display cover atop a blue Bel/Escort display. The blue LED displays are so bright that they have no problem shining through a red display cover, although the intensity is less and the blue LED colors will have a very slight magenta color to them.

So, I suggest two possible solutions:

    1. Escort likely could swap your 9500ix's blue display and blue display cover for a red display and red display cover. Perhaps they would do this at no charge in order to resolve the glare problem.

    2. Escort might be willing to send you a red display cover which you can easily swap out yourself. Its as simple as removing the bottom cover of the 9500ix, sliding up and out the blue cover, and then inserting the red cover and putting the bottom case back on. I can email or PM you detailed instructions.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions. I ended up returning the detector and have re-installed my V1. I know I'll get more false alerts where I live (Dallas) but will appreciate the arrows once again and the smaller package. Also, I may look in to getting redlight cam alerts, etc. on my Garmin.

I was looking at my friend's Bel RX65 and noticed that his display screen was slightly angled, and allowed it to not have any glare. In my opinion this is something Escort should look in to fixing. Even if I cranked up the brightness, there were still a lot of reflections on the display. Then I wouldn't be able to use the auto-brightness mode and would have to manually turn the brightness down when it got dark.

Looking at the pictures of the Bel GX65 (Bel's version of the 9500ix minus the auto-blocking feature), it appears to have an angled display. Hmmm... maybe this could be an option.

    Thanks again!

Thumbs down Re: 9500ix screen glare

Do any of you guys no what the 9500 ix is ? If you do , it seems to me that you understand there are multiple brightness settings . I have no problem as I set the brightness as is needed . Glare ? Unless a sunroof is wide open on a bright and sunny day , I do not understand how you guys have this problem . As an ix owner , I have never had this problem as , again , I use the brightness controls .

The GX65 has an angled display with an angle which is similar (may be identical) to the Bel Vectors. My car has a light tan interior which of course is a source for reflections off a RD's display. The Vectors have a display and display cover which is tilted back from vertical by 15 degrees, and I have never had any problem with glare from my V995's display no matter where I mounted it in between very low and very high. If the GX65's display also is tilted by 15 degrees, then it should work fine. Can a GX65 user confirm that the angle of the GX65's display and display cover is 15 degrees? Or is the GX65's display and display cover angled at 30 degrees from vertical?

I know I'm probably in the minority due to this not being discussed before that I could find. The two causes in my opinion is the flat display and glossy screen.

I wasn't interested in manually adjusting the display brightness every time it turned from day to night and night to day. In auto-mode the daytime brightness was not bright enough to cut through the glare. Plus the glare and reflections would have still been there.
