Default tech mode display incorrect numbers

I was thinking that perhaps there may be a glitch, no new news there, but thinking about it interms of the detector processing a threat on a particular frequency, our detectors finding a valid radar signal, but incorrectly displays the data for whatever reason.

This occured to me as I just recently wanted to try accusweep mode to just scan for 33.8 34.7 35.5, BUT I have just reviewed my FHP (trooper) known encounters that tech mode displayed (accusweep was off at this time). One at 33.693 which is just outside the +/-100 guard for accusweep 33.8, and in another case it was far out at 33.491. These numbers were verified, constant on, as I came up and past the trooper and continued past. I wrote the numbers down at that time as not to forget, I did not realize at that time (busy driving) that the numbers were that far off from 33.8. Now regardless, they were safely within the superwide Ka band. But NOT if I was useing accusweep mode. To further my theory, others have reported having a 33.200 display which is out side even a 100+/- guard for the edge of 33.4 wideband. Why would the detector even alert to such a fequency in the first place.

This is my point, perhaps it picked up 33.8 but just spit out 33.2. Perhaps I can safely trust my detector, and just watch tech display as junk entertainment. Will have to watch this the next time I travel along the turnpike and after finding a trooper switch from superwide to accusweep and see what happens.

The only other thought I have is that radar gun units that sit on the dash in the florida sunlight (also in the rear window), bake in the sun and reach temperatures that make the radar frequency drift, same can be said about our radar detectors (although mine is pretty well sheltered, mounted high, and blocked by dark factory tint). The only other way to verify these crazy numbers is having a second vehicle along with tracking numbers at the same time, like thats ever gonna happen for me. Anyways just my thoughts on this agrevating subject matter. Thanks for reading.

One last thing I will throw in here, a compilation list compliled from members here, I am sure everyone will recognize, this list is known FHP troopers in FLorida, the * are just for informational purposes for myself, they are numbers from myself and others, the majority of this list is from member PHILBERT. The list is self explanatory, I think... ehh it seems copy and past from word is not as clean as I expected.

If your wondering. Florida Highway Patrol uses Dual Stalkers at 34.7GHZ and MPH Bee incorporating POP mode, at 33.8 but my RX65 has shown 33.725 to 33.89x before. (x = forgotten digit 8) ) . I run with USA mode which is Accusweep, so at least for the RX65 I can say it will still detect it even if 100mhz off.

some radar guns fall way out of turn and sometime the detector doesn't give the exact same frequecy

That's understandable, and also it has been questioned how accurate the "Expert" meter and the "Threat" display (X50/X65) are. So I take the readings with a grain of salt anywho.

Assuming that the frequency displayed on your RX was correct, yes, that's pretty far out of tune.

What is the point of the tech mode anyways. I do not think that a court would throw a ticket out if told that their RD said that the radar was out of tune. I guessing it is more of a for #*^$'s and giggles type of thing. Perhaps I am wrong??? I just cannot see an advantage over the display showing multiple threats.

the v995 doesn't have a multithreat display so i prefer the spec for ka so i know when its a false or a real gun. i slow down regardless, but it is nice to know

Well, a way-off reading might tip you off that it'd be a good idea to request calibration records for the radar gun, since chances are it's way out.

Also, I can spot falses from other detectors really easily with tech display on my RX65.
