    Default 9500IX Speed Traps

I just purchased an Escort 9500ix from best buy. I immediately installed it on my car and drove home. I passed some known speed traps on the way, and it did not alert me at all. Finally I get by my house and it tells me there's a speed trap. So the first thing I do is go home and update my RD. So the next day I go back out and im seeing no Speed Traps at all. Not even the one by my house. I called Escort and they told me that they got their Speed Trap info from speedtrapusa.com. I register on that site and see both the speed trap by my house and the other one that I knew was a speed trap listed on their site. But none showed on my RD. I call escort again and the lady tells me that the speed trap option was removed and she did not know when it would be enabled again? Does anyone know of this?

Escort filters the speed traps to a higher level so not to have so many BS speed traps with LEO's that sit once a month or week. The defender database uses information/confirmation from other Escort owners as well.

Yea but according to some woman i spoke to at escort, she said that it was totally removed? Thats what im trying to figure out. Only because my RD is not showing any speed traps that are on speedtrapusa.com where they supposedly get their speed trap information.

Does Escort still do the 3 month free subscription? The Defender Database costs money to use. I ask this to make sure you have an active subscription, otherwise all of the following is a moot point.

I imagine she means that the speed trap(s) you spoke of had been removed from the database due to them not being highly probable traps. As stated they have to filter them based on probability. If every single speed trap was stored, you would go nuts. Where I am at, Interstate 95 has openings every 2.5-3 miles. They use some of the user feedback to determine what are the most common speed traps and what are not common. Subsequently, some updates may actually decrease the number of alerts you get, yet become more accurate.

I would call back and verify all of this and if it is the case, simply mark the location(s) yourself with the ix.

Which is one of the reasons I am no longer buying Escort.

So what are you buying? I got my RD from best buy. I got 30 days to return it LOL. I really feel like returning it because of the speed traps. I feel cheated. Even though I have all the speed traps, red light camera, photo installed on to my kenwood gps as poi's which i can update anytime I want from trapster. I really dont need all that on my RD. But I like the fact the the 9500ix can eliminate falsies because of the gps it has. I live in Miami and travel up to NY once in a while. So I dont want false alerts all the time and eventually start ignoring my radar detector like I did with previous ones.

If false alerts are things you hate, the 9500ix is simply unbeatable. While I think the whole having to pay for the subscription thing is purely and totally ridiculous crap, the database itself is pretty decent, and it can save you when traditional detection methods won't work (ex: VASCAR for example or where instant on is shot). It's overal range is pretty good, and its GPS capability is very, very useful. Any more sensitive detectors and you are going to have a beat-box in your car, especially in Miami. IIRC also, they use traffic monitors in your area, so the TSR feature will also serve you well if this is the case. More than likely, it is the best way to go if you hate false alerts or begin to ignore falses if they are frequent.

Yea i figured that the 9500ix is probably the better deal for the falsies. Im just not digging the fact that I am driving up to NY from Miami next month and the speedtraps are disabled. I also wish it had the concealed remote thingie like the V1 does and I wish I knew where the cops where shooting from like the V1. So many RD's so little $$$$$
