Default Is it worth replacing my trusty STI Magnum with a new Redline for maximum K band

    Hello everyone,

I live in an area where cops use instant on or pop K band radar exclusively . I have an STI Magnum that hasn't ever failed me. I have on occasion felt that range was a little short . I am wondering if a Redline would be a nice upgrade .

I am also wondering if anyone thinks that Escort will be replacing the Redline with an even better unit that is just as undetectable Given that the Redline has been out for many years.

    Thank you

The RedLine with is BS/RDR custom sweeps will greatly improve response as well as increase range constantly on Ka, and K band may be a bit better than the STI, but you will need to turn off TSR since it hampers K band on the RedLine.

You can read all about the BS/RDR Ka settings for the RedLine here: http://www.radardetector.net/forums/...-settings.html

In an area where they use K band radar, you will find almost no improvement in detection by upgrading to a Redline. If you encounter Ka band then I would most definately upgrade to the Redline. If you do upgrade to the Redline, you absolutely must set up the redline as described in the link in CJR's post.

The only different setting that I would recommend you evaluate for yourself is is TSR. If you encounter many m band falses, you may want to consider enabling TSR to reduce the false alerts.

Where do you live that you encounter POP?

The are no pop K band radar guns in Ontario. The K band that you encounter from the OPP are Decatur Genesis units--not capable of transmitting 16ms POP. Now to answer your questions, the Magnum you're running is a perfectly good detector, you couldn't justify spending the money to buy a new redline.

X2, BUT the Redline of yore is NOT the Redline of today. When you guys tested my unit years ago, it was nicknamed Sleeping Beauty and rightfully so. ON IO/QT shots, it was dreadful and in fact, outright missed some Ka band shots. NOW, with RDR Toggle and Ka Band segmentation, the Redline is indeed one step ahead (or two) of the Valentine 1 in Ka band range without any doubt. My old Sti Driver performs great (still), BUT nowhere near my Redline with Ka Band segmentation and RDR toggle OFF. (the updated Magnum still does not get that firmware update that Redline did in April 2013) Its simply night and day in performance. Now the Redline performs like an unleashed Stir-O of yore.

I also believe K band is effected in a good way too with the newer BS/RDR settings by default.

The Redline is still considered the KING of W/S mount RDs. However, you not only need to worry about K-band radar in the GTA, but more worrisome is Lidar (Laser) guns both Local Police & OPP use. There have been new reports in the last 2 mo's that Ka-band radar has been seen & heard in the form of Stalker II handheld radar guns.

It's time for you to upgrade to a Redline or STi R+ RD !
