Yeah I've got an older cobra 12 band, which from what I've read on here is not so good. I am ready to upgrade so I'm just trying to read up as much as I can before asking any questions.

The guys here are pretty good about giving ideas if you can tell us a few things.

Where do you do most of your driving (city, highway, etc.)?

Budget?

How fast do you really like to drive?

Do you live or drive in the VA or DC area?

Is laser in heavy use in your area?

I'm not sure what all they use yet here in Indiana.
I drive alot of the time (90%) interstate where the speed limit is 70 mph and everybody is usually going about 80, also I do seem to keep my speed up even as the limit drops to 55 mph. But alot of the time here recently I've been taking back country roads marked 45 mph and I seem to end up at about 55-60 mph.
I can't remember ever paying over $100 for a detector and I'm not sure I could talk myself into coughing up the dough for some of these top dollar units. So I'm gonna say between $100-$200 (for now)

I have noticed lately that I have seen multiple unmarked officers standing beside their car pointing there radar guns with no alerts from my cobra. Even this morning, I move to the middle lane to let somebody go around me at about 75 in a 55 just as he passes, a sheriff gets him with a radar/laser gun and I never even got a beep?

This is what I'm looking into now, tryin to see if there is some kind of new band or something my 12 band is not picking up?

If they're standing outside the car, it's laser. There's no reason to get out of the car for radar. No radar detector will give you even the slightest chance against laser. You need a jammer.

Stealth is correct this sounds like laser and the only protection is a jammer. What you drive makes a lot of difference in what jammer may work for you.

The best is the Laser Interceptor (LI) but it is expensive. The new Blinder M27/47 has not been released yet and no one has actually tested a retail unit. We have tested a unit supplied by Blinder and it was very impressive. If the 2 head version will protect your car (depends on the model of car) you may be able to get away with the M27.

I'm sure the guys here can recommend a good detector in the $200 range. I don't have any experience with them so it would be hard for me to say.

One thing for sure with the economy in a downturn you can look for enhanced revenue enforcement (more speeding tickets) from the local LEO's.
