Default new to forum, have a detector mounting location question

hello! newbie here! i am looking to get a passport 9500ix for my mustang. i have a question on the mounting location. i have a 3 inch cowl hood so if i do a center mount, it will have to be high anyway to go over cowl. i dont want a mid windshield or mirror mount as i would prefer to have detector more concealed (obvious reasons) i have the idea to mount detector up high in left hand corner of windshield. with the cars design, the detector will be unseen from the outside, even standing next to the drivers door. also, the rake on the windshield will have detector sticking out about 1 1/2 to 2 inches past A-pillar and roof line so the pillar shouldnt interfere. from what i can tell, the detector will have a clear view out the front and back from this location. i understand that lidar detection may be affected by this higher mount, but where im at (Oklahoma), lidar is not that much of a threat, so im not too worried about that. will the higher up location at all hurt the radars ability to pick up K and Ka?

    thanks!

thats kind of what i thought. now about the 9500ix, is that a really good detector? i like the auto learn ability. the last detector i had (over 10 years ago) alerted every time someone popped a burrito in a microwave. i like the idea of virtually no false alerts after a few weeks or so of driving in my area. (i also plan on turning off X-band as no one here uses it)

The IX is a good detector but if you have a smart phone the X50 black with Escort Live is a better combo in my opinion, you can lock out false and much more. For the price of an IX I would buy the Red line and get Live. There is an update coming that will make the Red line much better than it is.

The IX will be a good detector. You did not say if you are doing mostly highway or city driving. I will tell you that OHP is very good with quick trigger IO radar.

If you mount the detector near the top left corner of the windshield, how do you plan to get it mounted straight to the road?

Also, I own a 9500ix and it's by far my least favorite detector, because I cannot stand the audio rampup, which goes from no alert to full blast without justification. The Bel STi Magnum combined with Escort Live! for the GPS capabilities, would be a better choice, in my opinion. It'll perform tons better and the rampup is much, much better. I'm also hoping that Escort will soon add band segmentation and the ability to turn RDR off the the Bel STi Magnum via Escort Live!, which would make this detector a total performance beast that would shame the 9500ix.

what about the redline? would it be better for me than the 9500ix? i do worry about that Q/T. i mainly drive in a small town in OK that uses stalker duals (ka band i believe). i occasionally do drive into oklahoma city and norman. in fact, OKC PDs motor jocks are the reason why im considering a detector. they are relentless. im not sure what they are using, i dont think its lidar though. i dont have an issue popping 500 for a detector, not much more than that though. ive been between the redline and 9500ix. i like the 9500ix for its reduced falses. will the redline false alot in a small community? also, you never know when the state legislature will realize the money they could make with red light and speed cams, so that is a thought too.

as far as the poster who asked about how i would line it up with the roadway in my suggested, location, what do you mean? it will be facing straight out, just in the corner of the windshield vs the middle.

i havent owned a detector in over 10 years, so im sure the tech has changed a bit. i want to get the best bang for my $500.00. just need a push in the right direction.

    thanks!

By mounting an RD at the top left of the windshield it will be pointing to the left because of the windows curve. It should be aimed as straight ahead as possible. The Escort Live product will take care of everything that the IX does. Pair that with the STI Magnum or Redline and the IX will be blown away.

escort live works with android too right? so, can i aim the detector a little to the right to compensate for this or is mounting up the corner just a bad idea?

I works with Android and there is a version for Iphones. You can tilt it a little to aim it straighter. I wouldn't but then I am anal about it being level and straight. Try using different mounting locations. I mount mine above the rear view mirror to the left of the post. It fits perfect there in my car and works great.
