    Default Laser operation safe?

Hi, I've been a reader for a few years with few posts, but I haven't seen a post on "How safe is laser"? or "How safe is a laser jammer?"

Is the likelihood or possibility of eye damage so small it is not an issue?

What is the possibility of someone looking into a laser gun when fired and LEO's are not aiming for the windshield generally anyway.

Now with the Interceptor with HD heads, I've read, not to look into the units when powered up, so how do these jammers work? Do they literally send a brighter laser beam directly back to the laser gun jamming it. Or is the Interceptor sending a wide beam covering a large area where someone could be looking at the front of the vehicle at the same time while the Interceptor is engaging and jamming the gun.

What is the possibility of someone looking into a laser jammer?

I drive about 75k miles a year, I have a STi Driver and I'd like to buy the Interceptor, but am hesitant.

Secondly, and maybe this should be a second post, how difficult is it to remount the Interceptior system to another vehicle once I need to replace my car, since I don't usually drive a vehicle more than 2 or 3 years.

    Thanks,

I wouldn't worry about it. Why would someone deliberately stick their face in front of a jammer system when it's on?

Installation is easy. Use the mounts that come with the kit and you should be fine. Usually to install a front setup it's 1-3hrs and to take it out it takes like 30 min max, lol.

Only the LE-10's should you worry about, all others are class 1 eye safe devices. Not to say I would point one at my eyes at close range, but there should be no danger from normal operation and use.

Lidar is safe as water, but I would not stick my head under water for an extended period of time.

Laser diodes in both lidar guns and jammers are focused such that the beam spreads out; it's not a pencil-thin beam like you see in laser light shows.

Unless you put your eyeball up to the head while it's firing, it won't hurt your eyes.

Even then, the pulse width is so narrow there's actually very little energy being emitted over time.

    Default LI8 Test
Regarding LI8 test. It might be helpful if someone could make sure an LI rep looks at these numbers:

    Control Test trigger against a PL2 (238hz)

    11 pulses x 238 pulses/sec x 7 sec = 18326 pulses

    Output into 7mm at 100mm approx 300uW average or 114E-9 Joules/Pulse

EN60825 using N exp -.25 factor yields approx AELsptrain 45nJ per pulse

More restrictive and appropriate is Total On Time Pulse method (TOTP) yields about 7nJ.

C6 factor (on SPL90_3 at 100mm) may gain a factor of 1.2 on AEL (maybe).

This of course is not an official test and no accusation is made!!! Our goal on both sides of the coin is to be safe!

If you're a big enough man to drive the car and put your face in front of your jammer at the same time, you won't be driving anyhow.

    Ok, Heh, heh, funny stuff.

I am more so thinking about the LE10, and oncoming traffic someone looking at the front of my car at the exact moment the Jammers are firing, or a LEO since they are looking directly at the front of vehicle while targeting.

What I'm reading is it's not an issue, Thanks for the replies. I just don't want to injure someone's eyes, because they were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Now I have to decide which unit to buy?

Unless you have an LE10 you won't have to worry about buying one, the company is no longer around and the LE10 has not been made in years.

    Thanks for clearing that up.

I was thinking a LE10 and a Laser Interceptor was one in the same.

I haven't been paying much attention to Jammers, since I was not seeing a need for one, but have noticed a serious increase in laser use where I have been traveling as of the last month. The state must have received some stimulus money and retrofitted the LEO's with new toys. I been getting tagged a few times a week in some of the bigger cities. At this rate I will be getting a ticket.

Strangely enough, I got ticked in UP Mich on vacation this last weekend with KA I/O, but it's been 3 years, so I was overdue I guess.
