Finally got lasered after 17 months w/LI... underwhelmed... PT??

Well, I finally popped my LI cherry after an extended wait. Had to drive to NJ (through CT) to get the privilege of getting shot by a CT State Trooper.

Anyway, it caught me by surprise and the car's cabin was making a racket as the V1, Redline, and LI all sounded off. I promptly started braking down to PSL in order to execute a nice JTK... but, I glanced over to the LED and saw it wasn't flashing... which means the trooper stopped shooting me.

I was behind someone so I probably wasn't over his threshold, so he never came after me... but now I'm wondering if he got a PT, or for some other reason decided to stop shooting me. It took me maybe 3-4 seconds to react and completely slow down at which point I glanced at the JTK-1 status LED (which echoes the LI LED) and saw it "idle".

With all the noise at the time from all the countermeasures plus my wife talking on her cell phone at the time, I couldn't hear what gun announcement was made. So I don't even know what I was shot with. Probably an Ultralyte.

My heads were coated in road grime, so that could be a contributor.... or maybe I really do need to move my heads to the upper grill. That'll be a project for when the weather gets nicer. I did clean off the heads when we stopped for lunch, pee breaks etc. but I'd been driving for a couple hours when the hit occurred, so the heads were dirty again.

I did verify proper operation of the LI and JTK-1 with my PL3 the other day so I know all the equipment is functioning.

I didn't turn them off. I have a circuit I built that shuts them off after braking during a jam, but that device didn't trigger since the jammer wasn't still jamming when I stopped braking.

I didn't have to shut them off because he's already stopped shooting me.

Hmmm, idk man. Just keep the LI switch and turn them off manually. Your little mod could have given you a ticket....

I have yet to get hit but I do have to travel through states and areas where it is used so just offering what I think could of possibly happened.

Since you said you've tested the circuit and it works fine: Either you weren't the target (car ahead of you was, you just caught enough scatter to set off the LI's) or he got a PT due to

that. I doubt he would stop shooting you unless he got a speed reading as the unit just plugging away and getting no reading would probably make him try harder.

Maybe you can get someone to help test out your install again and just maybe be able to duplicate what happened. I'm betting on the heads were dirty enough to cause possible PT. Wonder if someone can chime in and let us know just how clean the heads need to be to work 100%.

That fancy circuit cutoff you have setup there is asking for trouble if you ask me, so I agree with Rob suggestion to ditch that and keep it simple.

Now i'm sure you're aware of this so this is just a reminder - having a jammer (even the best made product which you have) will not guarantee JTG/JTK performance all the time. All it takes is the right variables for any setup, even optimally placed sensors. Optimal placement just eliminates a significant amount of guesswork and gives ultimate peace of mind.

Get your setup tested if you have doubts.

I did have my setup tested some time back, and someone did get one mystery punchthrough with my PL3 on one run, but every other run was JTG.

My JTK circuit isn't the issue. I designed it to be reasonably foolproof, plus I'll know if it shuts off the jammer as it gives me an audio alert. In this instance the LEO stopped shooting before I needed to JTK, which leads me to think either he got a PT right away or I got scatter off another vehicle. Though, scatter isn't likely to set off the V1, LI *AND* the Redline.

If it was a PT, it was either due to my heads being in the lower grill or the grime on them. Living in the northeast, especially with this sucky winter, it's impossible to keep them clean especially on a longer trip.

I was just hoping that my first "jam" would have been more successful.... especially after going well over a year without getting hit.

I guess a springtime project will be to relocate the heads to the upper grill. I know there are some here who would look at my setup and immediately say "TOO LOW"...

We'll see what the trip home brings... probably more snow and more grime...

If you tested your setup where the heads are mounted and get consistent JTG's, maybe your set is fine. I can see grime having an effect. So maybe the officer did get a PT on ya and you were below his/her threshold. How far above PSL were you going? But then again, maybe the officer just got out there and you were a warmup shot!?!?!

I'm thinking he got a PT due to a combination of the low mounting of my heads and the road grime. In past testing, one odd PT occurred with my PL3 at 1200+ feet but subsequent passes were all JTG. So I'll probably relocate my heads if spring ever arrives. Fortunately I was below his threshold at the time. There were many times during this trip when I would likely have been "over" threshold.

I was just hoping my first-ever real-life jam would be more successful.

Coming home I didn't encounter any laser, just some Ka including a nice rabbit save. I'll post more on that later.

You were speeding, you got hit with laser, the LI went off, you slowed down and didn't get a ticket.
That's 100 percent success in my book.
