If you stand too close to the heads when they are firing you can get badly burnt.

They're not very helpful at defending against sharks with friggen' laser beams when you're SCUBA diving.

    Au contraire!

I have found an old Blinder very good at dazzling Hammerheads.

    Rubbish with jellyfish though

To be serious there is not much of a disadvantage unless you live in a state where they are illegal -or- you JTG (jam to gun) on a LEO. In that case you may get an unfriendly ticket and possibly have to remove the unit.

The jammer heads have a shorter life-span than that of a radar detector unit. They are also (all of them) not purchasable in a normal store so the warranty you get is at the dealer's discretion. Now I have heard that all three dealers (of AL, LPP and LI) in the US generally provide quality service though LI users are waiting for a shipment of new parts.

I myself am waiting for the LI contact to reply to an email so I can purchase one. I'll let everyone know how the install goes and stuff once I have it.

x2, very good points made above, I would also like to note, that installing them (should you do it yourself), is a bit more critical and can sometimes be a bit more problematic then your standard dashmount detector.

what's the average lifespan of a jammer system? I believe the first thing to go bad would be the heads...

    ^ Unknown. :?:

Some of the earlier ZR3s and Blinder products have been around for 5 years, now, and are still going strong.

There are also many diode-driven jammers that have lasted years, and are also still pulling strong.

Disadvantage is that you spend all that money and almost NEVER (rarely) get any laser hits/saves. Considering how much you spent on the concept you'd like to be getting laser saves weekly. Also the sense of over confidence that will for sure get you popped off by everything else BUT laser.....paced by an unmarked, K or Ka instant on, or even being seen passing up too many cars. In other words there can be disadvantages, but I still prefer having them because I drive with some serious aggression.
