Default Difference between JAMMER and a SHIFTER

So there is a argument over on a Subaru board (the guy is supposedly a member here) and keeps saying a shifter is the same as a jammer.

I've told him he is wrong several times and he is providing links from here that are from 2005 and 2007, lol. Even Roy explained the difference when he was featured on the TV show on MOJO HD.

    CORRECT INFORMATION:

A laser jammer and shifter are the same.

MOJO HD's TV series "Test Drive" lied to everyone explaining there was a difference in the technology which actually there is not. The work "shifter" is just a way the company Escort tries to make their product sound more legal to consumers and law officials.

I say we make this a sticky in the forum and stop getting bad information spread around.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but:

Shifter - The shifter "shifts" the laser beam so that it does not receive any signal from the vehicle.

Jammer - The jammer sends back a signal to the laser gun.

Shifting is the same as jamming. Why do you think the ZR4 has LED's in it? It is pulsing back a return signal. So it is a jammer.

Veil might be considered a "Shifter" or "Absorber"

Shifting is a nice way to say jamming, without offending any LEO's or Politicians.

I know for a fact it's not the same....

They even had a diagram showing where it actually does not send back any signal to the laser gun.

IMO, you misunderstood Roy, or Roy was trying to keep the fact it is an active jammer on the DL.

    "* Multiple Laser-Shifting Diodes (16F, 8R)" - http://www.escortradar.com/zr4-specifications.htm

These "Diodes" are LED's, which send back timed pulses that make no sense when the LIDAR gun expects it, preventing it from getting a reading.

    Agreed.

Shifter is the "name" Escort uses.
The devise is still a jammer and works the same way as other brands.

I suppose they could call it a "Lidar Displacement Frequency Matching Unit" but the name is too long.

He definitely told the people at Test Drive the difference. I checked the youtube clip of the show and of course the part that I'm talking about was edited out at the end.

I'm going to PM Roy about this, because if I'm wrong I will admit it... however I think it's really wrong if he purposely did that.

They are the same.. If it "shifted" the ir beam, the heads would just be giant mirrors..

1 more vote here for they are the same thing. If you are "actively" defeating a gun, you are jamming that gun.

    Default .

I believe Escort might even have a patent or trademark on the term "Shifting" As others said I believe it is the same thing but more politically correct. Just like Parking systems that just happen to interfere with Laser.
