Default Reminder: Check visiblity of license plate.

    Hardware: 9500CI - ZR4 Rear Head (culprit)...

About a week ago I got pulled over after being followed for a good 3 / 4 of a mile. Long story short, the officer was a nice guy, but the 'warning' he gave me was for inadequate lighting of my rear license plate.

I assessed the situation, and the entire traffic stop is / was bullshat. You can see my plate just fine in the darkest of conditions, BUT because the ZR4 head is there it gave them a reason to pull me over.

So my advice would be just to check yours out when you get a chance and if it looks a little dim you might have to move the light over a touch. or make it off center.

I fixed this problem by installing LED license plate bolt lights. I did get pulled over for them once, because the LEO said they were blue and not white, so I put a coat of yellow paint over them. They are not blue, but they looked kind of like the HID headlight color, but with the yellow paint over them, they look like the normal yellowish-white lights that everone has.

that was what I was going to suggest

I was worried with my Volvo I might have to do that to my rear licence plate but I got lucky......Got to love euro cars

The one reason I haven't added a LaserShield to the back of my ride as it will cut the reflectivity of my plate making the officer think its not lit up

Thanks for the info, DJ! I have not seen those light bolts before, and those are exactly what I am going to need when I move my heads. And yeah, you can definitely see the shadow your ZR3 casts on the plate. Those LEDs do the trick!

    Great post.

This is a *very* important consideration.

It's among the reasons why I have my rear protection the way I do.

Remember, the primary goal of "The Game" is simply not to be stopped at all - and the best way to do so is to simply avoid being noticed, for whatever reason that may be.

I have honestly never seen those before (not that I remember) so:

DJ where did you get them, how much, and furthermore... how do they work ie: turn on/off?

x2, (many members have said this before me)... but: As much as I love encounters, and I love to see them in action... I would rather have no encounters at all, and have free-sailing... maybe not all forum members feel this way, but I sure do.

Exactly correct. I try to think of every possible reason I could get pulled over and address it. That's not always easy, since there are tons of laws that most of us probably don't know about. The odds are in the LEO's favor if he's looking to pull you over for something.

I got them off of Ebay. That's actually the seller I bought them from, but there are lots more of them on there now, including ones that are painted black, which I would have bought if they had been available at the time. I just tapped into the normal plate light source for power, so that they turn on and off when they are supposed to.
