Unbelievable!!!! Read the news story here: Ga. 'super speeder' law begins Friday | savannahnow.com

"Gov. Sonny Perdue has been pushing the measure since 2007. The Republican-led state Legislature finally approved it earlier this year as a way to find cash to help the state's struggling trauma centers.
Perdue said he hopes the fines will encourage reckless drivers in the state to slow down and save lives in the process. He's voiced public service announcements airing on radio stations warning Georgians about the crackdown."

"The fines are expected to bring in about $23 million a year, which Perdue said is intended for the state's cash-starved network of trauma hospitals.
It remains to be seen whether the money ends up there. The fines will be funneled into the state's general fund, which means state lawmakers will ultimately decide how the money is spent. Georgia is facing a huge budget shortfall."

It's all about MONEY......NOT SAVING LIVES!!!!

You need to spend more time just south of Atlanta. T'aint so. I have laser jammers and have never gotten hit one time. I do get hit with a lot of K and Ka.
The ratio is reversed. 99% radar and 1% laser.

Duluth, Lawrenceville, Dacula, all along the I-20 corridor is a different world with laser.

Maybe they're just lazier in Fayette, Coweta, and around Peachtree City and don't like to get cold outside of their cars or with the window open. All of these areas are within 40 miles of Atlanta.

Yeah where I live its strictly radar, so a laser jammer for me would be a waste unless I make a habit of driving up to Atlanta or across other states all the time.

I don't get south of Atlanta much, but all I have ever seen when I do is laser. Get down near Macon and I see some radar but not a lot.

Heck even 85 north to the border is now almost all laser.

Do I get a trophy or a plaque with that for my $200!!!

Other than this law GA is actually pretty fair about it speed laws. They have to give you ten over and it's no points until 15 over.
Agreed, the "real" speed limit on most Ga. interstates is 80 mph. I got tagged from the rear tonight with I/O in the 80's and he just rolled past me once I got back in the right lane.

I was sweatin' it for a minute though
Where you can really get hammered is around the airport if you aren't careful.
College Park LEO's use the interstate as a real money maker because the speed limit is 55 mph which is kind of abrupt after you've been going 70+ from Atlanta or from the south to Atlanta. The 55 PSL is total BS and no plausible reason for it with all those lanes. It's a setup and they take full advantage of it.

I think it's easier getting ticketed going 15 mph over the PSL when they also have some bogus PSL of 35 mph in some God forsaken area where it should be 50 mph
as opposed to a ticket for 85 in a 70. There is no rhyme or reason for some of the LOW speed limits other than for blatant speed traps and revenue producers.
    Well said!

That's where i got popped last, college park 285.
If you drive the PSL on 285, have your living will in order.
They will push out of the way, give you the finger, and laugh as the driver behinds them runs you over.
    50.
    yeah right.
    good luck with that.
