No K in Calagry?? I know I've picked it up from the RCMP
Ahhh, SWS... what a friggin' joke.

I'm positive that Alberta as a whole doesn't use anything other than Ka band or Laser. I did a lot of searching, especially on this forum and another Calgary-based car enthusiast forum to make sure I didn't have any conflicting stories.

K and X band are Grocery Store detectors in Calgary, as far as I'm concerned.

I've been driving around for close to a year in Calgary with an STI and POP enabled. I very rarely get POP alerts, and the ones I have received I have no reason to believe were genuine LEOs. I haven't turned it off because it falses so rarely and there's always that chance..

I've driven through both locations you describe numerous times, and did not get any alerts at all. The 16th/Center street intersection I generally ignore all alerts though, for two reasons.. 1) you're moving so slow it doesn't matter, 2) there's so many stores around, falses are common on 16th.

The Bow/Sarcee intersection the LEOs camp out at with the construction going on and there's really any buildings around, so I'd be more wary of that one, although I've never had an alert there myself.

Just FYI, I have seen K band used by the RCMP on the highway, although that is rare.

Actually Metro Toronto appears to have upgraded (all?) their units to Ka.

Swithcing off X and K makes for a very quiet ride. Running in dark mode I have to touch it now and them to make sure I didnt forget to turn it on......... doh

    Actually,
The new Sherrifs are using X. I also received a full X band alert last week heading north on Highway 2 near Wetaskiwin, as I passed a parked RCMP. In all honesty, you must expect the LEos come here and troll, if they read posts that say everyone turn off your X band, guess what they`re going to use.

    Default well

Well I hate to break it to you, but a few spots in Northern Ontario still use x band. A friend of in mine called me to tell me he had just got hit w/ x band up there. Suggestion, x band on in Northern Ontario, x band off in Southern Ontario. I can see a small municipality using x band out in the middle of Northern Ontario. It makes sense to me. 8)

You're not breaking anything to me... the fact that xband is in use in N Ont is well known and frequently discussed on this forum ... I'm challenging the previous post that Leos are returning to x band to catch rd users who have disabled x band... I think that is BS

I think you misunderstood. I stated that I have seen X band in use in ALberta, but being in Ontario, I suppose you would know better.

My comment about LEOS switching to X to catch RD users is not based on fact, but speculation on my part, so you may come to whatever conclusion you would like.

Just to add to this. I live in SOuthern Alberta, I routinely travel North up Highway 2 to Calgary or Edmonton. I got a K band alert travelling near Nanton, I slowed down, and kept an eye out, there was a sheriff parked on my side of the road. As I passed him, My alerts went from FUll K, pause, Full X, pause and back again. Now he could have been parked next to something emitting X in the hopes of fooling RD users, but twice now I have received full X alerts while near a Sheriff. COme to whatever conclusion you would like, I`ll be leaving my X on.

Thats fine........ as my wife would say....... I'm still saying your speculation is without any logic or reason.

The only way to know for sure is to go back over that area and learn the non leo alerts..... both the K and X may not have come from the Leo
