Alpharetta adds streets with radar

Got a need for speed? Well, you might want to consider easing off the gas when cruising through Alpharetta these days.

The City Council recently approved a speed zone ordinance that added to the list of streets on which police are authorized to use radar to catch speeders. State law says police can use radar only on declared streets.

Alpharetta police have an expanded list of streets on which to use radar. Most of the streets are in 25 mph and 35 mph speed zones.


The list includes new streets such as part of Cogburn Road, Westside Parkway and streets in newly annexed areas.

The city is in the process of installing the new speeed limit signs. Police will issue warnings in the new zones for about a month. After that, it'll cost you.

Here are the streets and their revised speed limits:

• Barnesley Lane, between Grey Abbey Drive and cul-de-sac, 25 mph; Canton Street school zone, from just south of Milton Avenue to just north of Trailer Street, 25 mph; Cape York Trace, between Grey Abbey Drive and cul-de-sac, 25 mph;

• Carybell Lane, near North Farm Drive, 25 mph; Cogburn Road, between Ga. 9 and Windward Parkway, 35 mph; Cumming Street, between Ga. 9 and Westside Parkway, 35 mph; Cumming Street school zone near Henderson Parkway, 25 mph; Douglas Road, between McGinnis Ferry Road and Highland Glen Drive, 45 mph;

• Grey Abbey Drive, near the cul-de-sac, 25 mph; Harris Road, between Upper Hembree Road and Rucker Road, 35 mph; Haynes Bridge Road school zone, near Blackwatch Lane, 25 mph; Haynes Bridge Road, from Ga. 120 to just north of Haynes Forrest Drive, 45 mph;

• Kimball Bridge Road, from Westside Parkway to just west of State Bridge Road, 35 mph; Kimball Bridge Road school zone near North Point Parkway, 25 mph;

• Mayfield Circle, between Mayfield Road and cul-de-sac, 25 mph; Mayfield Manor Drive, between Mayfield Road and cul-de-sac, 25 mph; Mayfield Road, between Ga. 9 and Freemanville Road, 35 mph; Mayfield Road school zone near Hook Road, 25 mph; Milton Avenue school zone near Canton Street, 25 mph;
