Default TX - Sugar Land Police STEP Enforcment Info

    SLPD seeks hit-and-run suspect
    Thursday, April 19, 2007 5:10 PM CDT

Sugar Land police have cracked down on speeders along U.S. 59, but now they're looking for a truck driver who kept on going after smashing up a patrol car conducting a traffic stop.

The incident happened at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday while two SLPD patrol cars were conducting a traffic stop on the southbound shoulder of U.S. 59 just south of State Highway 6.

A collision between a white 18-wheeler and a gold four-door Honda Accord forced the Honda into one of the parked police cars, but the truck driver failed to stop, said Doug Adolph, SLPD spokesman.

The truck driver was last seen heading south on U.S. 59.

Police are asking that anyone with information should contact Officer John Sipe at 281-275-2586 or Sgt. Wayne Coleman at 281-275-2653, both of the SLPD Traffic Unit.

The daily traffic enforcement has been running from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on U.S. 59, funded by a $110,000 Selective Traffic Enforcement Program grant from the Texas Department of Transportation.

The STEP grant, to reduce speeding, provides overtime for SLPD to provide enforcement in the targeted area without affecting the department's payroll budget.

I know exactly what part of Highway 59 they're focusing on. When I run down to Corpus Christi I take that route out of town. It's a NASCAR curcuit for sure. Bump & grind drivin baby!.
59 South makes metro Atlanta 75 North to Roswell look like a geriatric ward. And they play for keeps in Atlanta.
