Safety Initiative to Target Aggressive Drivers, Speeding, DWI

ALBANY, NY (08/23/2007; 1504)(readMedia)-- The New York State Thruway Authority and State Police Troop T today announced that “Operation Summer Brake” will take place beginning Saturday, August 25, 2007 through Wednesday, August 29, 2007.

“The busy summer travel season has almost come to an end and the Authority wants to encourage motorists to be extra cautious while driving,” said Thruway Authority Executive Director Michael R. Fleischer. “While everyone is anxious to get to their destination, please remember to be watchful while traveling through construction zones, always wear your seat belts, and never drink and drive.”

From August 25 through August 29, Members of State Police Troop T, dedicated solely to conducting speed and aggressive driving enforcement, will be deployed daily along the 641-mile New York State Thruway.

“Troop T will be out in full force patrolling the highway, as well as watching for intoxicated drivers, speeders and conducting seat belt checks,” said State Police Troop T Major George P. Beach II. “The warmer weather brings more motorists out onto the roads and ensuring everyone’s safety is Troop T’s number one priority.”
