Default MN - Court orders red-light camera refunds

    Court orders red-light camera refunds

Thousands of Minneapolis/St. Paul residents may receive refunds totaling as much as $2.8 million, now that a court has thrown out evidence from red-light cameras.

According to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune, the court ruling only applies to 147 people who sued to have their cases reopened. But, the courts could eventually invalidate all the evidence from the so-called “PhotoCop” cameras.

The district court ruling follows an earlier state Supreme Court finding that the cameras violate people’s rights because drivers are issued tickets without videotape evidence of who was actually driving the car at the time the photo was snapped.
