    The user should pay?

    Okay.

I decline the service of being ticketed.

Their logic just doesn't work here because their are laws against charging people for products or services they did not agree to pay for. So if they want to label this a service, they're going to have to have to allow people to opt out. I'm pretty sure they don't want that.

The fuel surcharge idea is ludicrous. Next thing you know, there will be surcharges tacked onto motorists' tickets for things like overtime pay, new light bars, radar guns, and whatever else that tiny local police department decides to tack on. No kidding that there are laws against this.

Holly Springs resident Sikiru Ayinle said he supported it. "It's a nice idea a way for them to raise some money for the police"
    Well, isn't THAT special?

Here's an idea: How about concentrating on REAL crime instead of wasting resources on made-up crime.

Unreal that they would even try this! Like they are the only ones paying higher fuel prices. Boo Hoo!

This is nothing compared to certain cities in Florida now charging you if you require a Police officer after an accident and a report is made for you and you are NOT a resident of that city or county! Average charge, $275.00!

Thats crazy! What happens if you aren't at fault? Does the insurance company pay it (or try to fight that charge)?

I agree. I think Georgia has become king of ticket surcharges. 8 years ago (last time I got a ticket for speeding) you just paid the fine plus $10 (just the nominal "court cost") and that was it.

When I got a ticket for an accident a couple years ago now, the base fine was in the neighborhood of $100, after they piled on this fee, a contribution to this "fund" or that and all the other various surcharges, it turned into a $170 ticket!!!
