Aiken County—For many, Thanksgiving means turkey…and traveling, and this year, the experts say there will be more cars on the highways.

AAA reports that more people will hit the road this year, opting to pay the higher gas prices, instead of higher plane fares.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol will be out in full force this year. Troopers will be looking for drunk drivers, speeders, and people not buckled up.

Trooper Judd Jones, South Carolina Highway Patrol: “It will also be the heavy holiday shopping period, so that’s why we are asking to have a little bit more patience with people, try to have a good attitude about it. You know there’s going to be extra people on the road, so just prepare yourself, give yourself extra time for traveling.“

Thirteen people died on South Carolina roads during the Thanksgiving holiday last year.
