Very nice. I'm not entirely sure about revoking a license for a red light violation resulting in a crash, but I'm in favor of doing so for drivers who disregard the red lights and/or stop sign of a school bus.

Obviously it is much needed for the safety of students,” Wiles said about the new law, adding many drivers aren’t really aware that they must stop. He hopes the threat of losing their driving privileges for such offenses makes a difference.
I'm flabbergasted. Every school bus I've seen has a flip-out stop sign that looks exactly like every other stop sign in the country. Someone who doesn't understand that doesn't need their license taken away; they need to be institutionalized before anyone else can catch their stupid.

But when drivers do stop as they should on her route, she said, “I always wave and smile to say thank you.”
Maybe I'm weird, but I hate that. Not just that, but also when I get waved to by pedestrians in crosswalks I stop for, when I stop short to give large trucks room to turn, or do anything else to inconvenience myself when it's my basic legal responsibility or in my self interest to avoid a collision. It's like, you've already stolen a precious few seconds of my day, why wave and rub it in my face? Especially when all I'm doing is following the law, like you assumed I was so stupid that I wouldn't?

You know, there really are some people like that. Some people think it's like a normal stop sign so they do what they do at other stop signs - slow down to about 10mph and just roll through.

I see more of the people though who decide to argue that the yellow lights were on, not the red ones, so they are allowed to go through. What they don't realize is that accelerating past a school bus with yellow lights on is a violation, too, so they're breaking the law either way. In PA anyway, you can pass a school bus with yellow lights displayed, but it has to be at a speed lower than the PSL...accelerating past the bus to try and beat it is a violation, too.

There's only so much publicity one can give to stopping for school buses...there's a lot of people who just won't ever learn regardless.

Wow. I... erm... never thought of it that way before. I guess the stopping for a school bus thing has been drilled into my head from such an early age I couldn't see it any other way.

Still, it says a lot about our licensing process.
