radar directional?

Hey guys I have a rx65 and I passed about 4 cops within these past 3 weeks. I've gotten a signal when I passe right by them and when I pass them I get like 1-3 ka. Then when I passed them about 100-200 feet I get a stronger signal? then it slowly gets weaker? Is there something wrong with my radar or is it because the police radar is directional? Most of the time, it seems like I get a signal when Im right on him or a better signal when I pass him. Any help appreciated!~

so roy my radar dectector is working fine? Most of the officers were just pointing it forward? And does our dectetor have a better range or the radar?
