    Default No more mistakes!!!

Hello everyone, I have been browsing this forum for the last few weeks and I have decided to become a member because of all the questions and concerns I have about RD’s. Some background information about me. I live in the province of Ontario where RD’s are illegal as most of you probably already know. I drive a black 2004 Honda Accord EX-L Four door. A few months ago before even knowing about this fantastic site I did a VERY big and costly mistake I purchased a Cobra XRS 9930 (Please don’t laugh) of eBay, after reading several topics I know that If I will continue to use this RD I will be caught by an OPP officer using Spectre II or III. Also I have just received via FedEx my Laser Shield and tub of Veil witch I will be applying to my vehicle soon. If any one would be able to give me advice on the Beltronics Sti and is it the best RD against Spectre II or III I don’t want to spend any more money on any more mistakes (Cobra XRS 9930) and for the best price on such a unit is it best to contact Beltronics for a deal?? If any one has time to help me out It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If you didint live in canada, i would highly encourage you to purchase an excort x50 or v1. but for your case, the sti is stealth against the spectre. from what ive heard recently tho is the sti has a very narrow vision of scanning for radar.

Definitely lose the Cobra and get an STi. Not only is the Cobra detectable by the Spectres, Cobras are pieces of !@#$ that cause other people's detectors to false and doesn't detect radar very well.

An STi will make you Spectre immune and you'll gain mucho performance as well.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

haha well i would love to smash to but on ther other hand i love money. so i would sell it on ebay or sell it to your friends for $120 atleast. Dont accept offers below 100..im sure you will get alot of clueless people to buy it. just say its 11 band or w.e. that cobra is and all that good marketing stuff that cobra claims. then use the money to save for the sti.

Did you mean a price drop in the sti? I highly doubt there wont be for a very long time..however you can talk to radar roy. He will take great care of you. PM him and see what he can offer. And radarbusters.com is deffinetly the place to go. You deal with radar roy personally when buying from him. If anything is to go wrong, just talk to roy and he will be glad to help you out.

STi prices will likely remain at $450 MSRP for years.

I have one, I live in a similar situation to you, I like mine. There are several different firmware revisions around :

A1M7 - first retail firmware. False-happy on Ka in particular. Potentially more sensitive on Ka, but most likely not.
A2M8 - 2nd version, relatively rare, tries to help with Ka falsing apparently.
A3M8 - 3rd version, quite popular. I have one. Never had a Ka false, even with cheap RD horn-horn. Falsing in general very low, but definately more sensitive than my cheap RD from before. However I did have a weird Ka "false loop" that the unit got stuck in once. Also there have been a couple "Service Required" reports from people when the unit got too hot (also true on the A1M7, A2M8 versions)
A4M9 - 4th and current shipping version. Buy one from radarbusters and it should be one of these. This version is supposed to solve the unit losing it's markers when it's too hot problem, but it's too early to say for sure. I've never seen someone here complain about a Service Required with an A4M9 though.

Anyway the STi seems to have had reports of "narrow vision", which compared to the V1, people have also noticed with the RX65 and X50. But it seems that the additional "field of view" does little but give false alarms from supermarkets. Generally, the police radar would be ahead of you not to the side, unless you are rounding a curve. But I haven't heard of anybody complaining about poor detection around curves.
