I would say go with the X50 better for the city driving as it is pretty quiet and plus you can turn off individual bands if they are not used in your area. Not to mention excellent detection range and great filtering

anything but a cobra but if you don't wanna spend $300+ on one of the top 3 models just stick with a bel 895, or 955 they're around $150

There are four radar detectors I like, Valentine One, Bel RX65, Bel 995, Escort 8500 X50. I live in New Hampshire and would recommend the Valentine One which has better sensitivity to laser. Bel STI is also an excellent radar detector but unless you need stealth I would pass on it.

X2 I have the X50 and stay in the city mostly.. Great filtering. The only thing I really get is the K band falses from the bank doors and supermarket doors that we discussed allready. That is probably what your detector picks up when you said it sometimes goes off for no real reason. No matter what detector that you get, there will always be falses, however the X50 seems to have the better filtering outta the top 3. As a RD user you have to learn to just suck it up and deal with it. I have my finger on the mute button before the falses even happen because I know where they ALL ARE! It is correct that the V1 picks up laser alot better than any other, but I really don't care because as soon as the V1 goes off, unless you have a jammer your pretty screwed eithier way. Unless you have police that shoot laser (I am not sure if your detector has picked it up before or if it even can) I wouldnt worry too much about it. Most police departments dont even own a single lidar gun anyways, this holds true even more if you live in the country or middle of no-where.

Welp...since the time I bought my V1, I only catch LEO using LIDAR to track my speed (3-4 times) in Michigan. It's very rare occassion that I see a LEO sit/parked and use conventional ka or k to track you down in my state. I think that's due to the fact that LIDAR allows them to choose a particular vehicle to track the speed at a distance while radar cannot, which gives it an advantage over radar?

This use to be the case until car insurance companies were buying Laser guns and giving them to Law Enforcement.

I would first study and learn how a radar detector actually works, including its benefits, and limitations.

Because if you do not know how radar, lidar, and other speed measurement devices actually work, a detector will be mostly useless to you and might even cause you to act in a manner conducive to traffic tickets.

Do at least a weeks worth of reading on any subject you can find to learn about everything, then make your decision if you still want one, then figure which one will meet your specific needs the best.
Some places the V-1 might be tops, but it may perform poorly in others. same goes for every other model.
