    Default Silver Eagle Mobile Radar

    Hey guys,

I'm from NSW, Australia, and last night did some open road driving up to Coffs Harbour.

The only time I use my Bel XR is when I'm doing long driving, so I get the usual K band falses when on highway mode as I drive past service stations and through small towns.

I've had the laser warning go off once before, so I know that works, but last night I passed right by a highway patrol car on the side of the road, and my unit did absolutely nothing, not one thing within 10 minutes or 20 minutes after driving past it.......

This worries me... I've had no service warnings come up on the unit, and about 20 minutes before hand I had a K band false as I drove past a petrol station.

Question I have, I've heard about the Silver Eagle (The unit the NSW police use on their cars) having a "Hold" mode, and that the officer must perform a "Visual observation and estimation of the targets speed".

My thoughts are since he was on the other side of the road, he might have had a buddy up the road doing LIDAR or radar, but I didn't see any other cars for the next 20 minutes....

But none the less, can anyone on here confirm that HWP in NSW don't always have their radar on?

I've had the unit 2.5 months now, and I've actually never encountered a highway patrol unit! I would really like to see this thing work at some point against a real threat, as I'm getting just a wee worried now

    Cheers guys

he might not have had his radar on, or did not determine you to be speeding so he did not target you.

Maybe he was reading a porno-mag, and he was pulling the weasel.

    Who knows,

Remember, these are "Radar Detectors" not "Police Detectors"

I would say he didn't have his silver eagle on, or was in the 'hold' position, believe me the Silver Eagle is very easy to pick up, look at my signature . And they are also used in Victoria and I get them all the time

    G'day Fox,
Yes, it's a common assurance with HWP in NSW. As far as i know, holding and releasing a signal is very rare, although, i know they can do it. I have not heard of this practice in my 12 years of riding and driving with RD's. It's the only time i say it's good that RD's are illegal in NSW, because if they were, the HWP use more sly tactics like hold and release, VASCAR and more damn Lidar. I'm also from your neck of the woods too, and more than once, especially around town or driving on dual carriage way, they DO NOT run their radar.

Don't worry though, you have a brilliant RD in the Bel STi driver, the same as me in fact. If the HWP had that radar on with 2000 meters of you, you'ed get the warning, i'll bet my right arm on that :P

The exception is, that he was playing possum for another HWP car up the road. As you can imagine, you come up on the first HWP car and you go s***, that was close. After a few minutes, up the road further, you find the real deal, lidar or radar. I'm sure they'll think you'll speed up after you see the first HWP car. However, this practice is usually in moving mode, not stationary...... very strange i must say!

Apparently now, using mobile radar in a built up area is a no, no, like in Queensland. They are having real dramas with their Decatur Genesis Select mobile radar.

Although, the week past, the HP in my area, had a big speed trap (6 HWP cars + 12 cops) set up near a 60kmh school area. However, if they feel the need to raise some easy cash, the Kustom Prolaser 3 is the choice.

Anywho, when in doupt, back off. Speed safe Fox
    RR

Ps. My e-mail is radardopplershift@hotmail.com. If you want, i have some very interesting material for you to read about NSW HWP Kustom Silver Eagle radar that will open your eyes

Yeb, Radarrick, is pretty well right about using the 'Hold" function seeing RD's are illegal, but it is common practice that when they are not using the radar, they keep it off by using HOLD, and if they observe a vehicle that looks like it is doing a speed they will flick it on to get a reading. In Vic they do occasionally use this method.

Heading East towards the city last night, about 10km's short of Parramatta on the M4. I seen a new Magna, not sure exactly but it was a metallic silver un-marked patrol car. Only had blue lights. Take care mate

yeah dude...actually the police use alot of the HOLD method....i did a big trip at xmas and encountered nothing but instant on!

I have also uploaded a vd of it in action.

Dont worry m8, if your XR is picking up servo door openers then it is working! just remember they use the same freq that police radar uses.
