Can someone please post an updated list of vehicles that set off our laser detectors (non police laser)? Thanks

    So far I got...

    Brake Lights or cruise from
    1. Chevy Tahoe
    2. GMC Envoy
    3. Oldsmobile Bravada
    4. Buick Rainier
    5. Infiniti FX series
    6. Lexus LS - (Ka too)
    7. Late model BMW convertible
    8. '00 Audi A6
    9. Nissan Elgrands

    Non vehicle
Store signs that use neon lights

Misread your post as radar, not lidar.

I have found that digital mapping vehicles will set them off, as they use a laser range finder to map cities.

Don't forget that little gadget at the airports that set off the BelEscort models.

the VASI system or it might be the Laser perking guides that they use when parking the planes at the gate. Sets off all RDs that I know of on Laser.

Near airports, it is usually a RADAR system that causes laser false alerts, supposably a wind sheer detection system. A very strong pulsed RF source is enough to overload the photodiodes in the detectors, causing laser alerts...

    Here's outrun's video:

I believe the current-model V1's filter this out. Older V1's needed to be sent back for an "airport mod", but this is no longer required.

The electric mirrors in my Mazda 3 set off laser detection, but only on my X50. The STi remains silent when operated in a similar fashion.

That is a picture of a standard air traffic control radar, probably operating in the X band, with an IFF panel antenna on top. Neither is much of a wind sheer sensor--that would come from a met radar somewhere else at the airport.

I believe it COULD be any of the following at an airport that sets off laser alerts:

    1. Visual approach slope indicator (VASI system), which is a series of directional lights that guide aircraft on the proper slope to land.

    2. Laser range finding equipment.

    3. Laser striping apparatus for runways and taxiways.

Unless you have info indicating otherwise, Professor.

Did you actually watch the video, or just look at the picture?

I'm certainly no expert on airports So, I don't know for certian what the radar that causes the laser false alerts on detectors is used for. However, a number of sources blame wind shear monitors, or high-powered air search radar.

But, I CAN say for certain that in most cases it is NOT any kind of light source that causes the frequent laser false alerts around airports (with some detectors), it is a high-powered pulsed radar source. It might seem strange to many people that radar can cause laser false alerts, but it is fact. This was in fact explained to me in person by a well-known engineer and CEO of a radar detector company, who reads this forum on occasion. If that doesn't convince you, I really don't have anything else to add.

I personally think it is the IFR beacons that we use when in the cirquit waiting our turn to land or to guide us when travelling in busy airways.

I don't think it is light because my X50 has gone off when I had no clear line site of the airport.
