Default Need some hard wire help (99 SS Camaro)

I was wondering if anybody here has an F-Body that they hard wired there RD into? If you do can you tell me where exactly you hooked the wires up? Maybe even share some pictures of you install and how you wired it up?

dont have this car or know what it looks like.

try pulling the head unit out and wiring the RD to the Accesories connection (should be red) use a multimeter to test for power. when the key is on the multimeter should read 12v

In the fuse box, there are BAT and IGN terminals for adding aftermarket accessories. Just get a spade connector and plug right in to the IGN.

I hardwired my old cobra to the cig lighter... Now with my x50 its not hardwired cause im planning a really clean install using the hardwire kit and the button locations for the foglights and traction control on the camaro.. I'll post pics of it when I do it, but since im at school, i prolly wont be able to do it until spring break

That would be great! I did exactly as Jim told me to do and it works fantastic. From the outside of the car you can not see the RD unless you look hard for it. The wires are completely hidden and the unit turns on when you start the car and turns off when you pull the key out.

I recommend putting an On/Off (toggle) switch on the power wire somewhere near your dash. This way, you can still turn the radar detector off if you have to without anyone seeing. It doesn't really matter, it just makes it a little more stealthy and gives you more control over it without having to reach up to the detector to turn it off. Im gonna use an extra foglight switch as the power switch for mine like I said in the panel where those switches are.

Tip: If you take off the dash piece around the radio, where they foglight and traction control switch is, you can take the "CAMARO" plaque off and theres two holes for the foglight style switches there.

In those 2 locations (where the camaro plaque would be), i plan on moving the foglight and traction control switch there. In the 2 spaces where those switches used to be, is where the smartwire display will go, as well as the switch to turn the detector on and off. I'll be sure to post pics when its done, but like I said I wont be able to do it until spring break. I also need to find an extra foglight switch so i'll be searching ebay and the camaro boards for that as well.

Alright new problem. I did as Jim said and it worked fine for about 1 week. Now the detector tells me low volt when I turn the car on and after about 10 seconds it turns itself off. I checked the ground and power connections and they are fine. I tried different grounding spot and same thing. When I plug my standard smart cord in it works fine. I am at a loss here.

how many volts are you getting at your power source??

Is it low voltage only when turning the car on? For example, if i leave my x50 on when i turn on my car, it will display low voltage until the car is running.

Wish I could help, but I don't know what is going on there
Mine has been wired there for years, no problem. I even run a scanner + CB from the same circuit :?:
