Default RD Protection from the sun and heat

now that its getting warm, how much damage can it do if the RD is left in the car? Right now, I have tinted windows and front windshield sun visor (one of those cheap foil like things), my mount is on top of the RVM and I can easily slide the RVM off and have the RD sit in the leg area, is this good enough?

I can't take it out each time say I go to the mall, 2 hours, and let it sit in the car or leg area, good enough, any other idea's?

Personally it is better off taking it off the windshield, both to protect from sun and to deter thiefs. However from my personal experiences I would NEVER leave a belscort out in the sun ever again. I left my Rx-65 on my windshiled and went inside the meat market for like 20-30 mins. Note it was about 102 degrees, well end result = Recalibration needed.

On the other hand i have left my v1 at the top of my windshield and only have my windows tinted and left left my v1 up the whole day while it was 100 degrees outside and no problems. Keep in mind this was the 3.826 verion. Pre digital thermonstat fix which is in the 3.851 units and up. The windows wernt even cracked. I put a kitchen thermometer and found my car inside gets 120+ degrees durring the Texas sun, so i always take it off for added confort.

It should be fine, especially with the windsheild foil. As long as it isn't in direct sunlight, it should be fine. Then again, I'd prolly put it in the glove compartment.

The thing I' worried about when using the foil would be the mount itself. Normally, with the heat of the sun, it's ok, but adding the reflected heat coming from the foil could there be a risk of it melting?

    Default take

Take the rd down when you can in terms of the heat and sun and let's not forget theft.

I left my Rx65 in my car for a day when it was only mod 80's out and it messed up its calibration. If you are in warrenty they you could see how it works, but keep in mind it might get messed up.

I bought the V1 carrying case. During extreme cold nights and when summer ramps up I have always taken my detector down, put it in the case then I stow it under my seat.

I think it would be cool to have one of those new dodge cars that come with the coolers in the armrest. That would be perfect for electronics such as RD's, iPods etc.

Never take my detector down, OK, yeah a couple of times when I'm forced to park in questionable places in the city. Normally my detector stays on the windshield, cold of winter, hot of summer. SelfCal failures can occur due to heat so maybe I've been fortunate, however it is a bit over the top to worry about how hot it's getting when your in the mall. On very hot days, unplug the unit when you're leaving the car, then turn on the A/C and cool it a bit before you turn it back on, that should work most always.
