The Ka KRISIS highlights BEL and ESCORT serious Achilles heel.
A QLD web site called it the "Ka Krisis" And WOW, it certainly is. The web site inadvertently made public a software problem that is present in "ALL" imported new and old BEL, BEL PRO, XR, Vector and Escort X50 superwide band, Ka Band radar detectors that have been sold.
The problem has the potential to render these detectors useless against any new QLD Ka radar units now in use.
The BEL engineers, to reduce false alarms, which are the bane of all digital, Superwide, all band, Ka radar detectors BEL and ESCORT, developed software that turns off all Ka radar detection, indefinitely ( that's NO detection of any Ka radar) when the detector is subjected to Radio Frequency Interference (R.F.I) of a certain type or band. And this is on top of horrific Ka Digital Delay problems, also present in all these superwideband Ka models.
This RFI may come from a Telecom tower, Radio transmitter, CD payer , Car stereo, Vehicle ECU. CB radio, UHF radio, or RADAR DRONE/Zapper in other vehicles.
All Ka detection of these Superwide Ka detection units will remain turned off/shut down, for as long as the key RFI is present.
The BEL and ESCORT Ka detection (All Ka) could be off for most of the time the detector is in use, or worse,
may be disabled just prior to being zapped by a new Ka band speed radar unit, Ka Camera unit. (WA)
A bigger problem is. The BEL or Escort all band detector does no tell or indicate to the user, that "all" Ka band detection is turned OFF. ???
And Zap your gone, no beep no warning.!!
Older style and new ANALOGUE K and Ka radar detectors did not and do not have this problem. This is why analogue detectors were so popular in New Zealand where Ka radar has operated for years.
The more broad ramifications are still to come.
July 2005.
Queensland Police "given" trump card in radar detector war by Queensland web site.
Queensland Police have gained access to, or been given to be correct, technical details on a device that will turn off/disable completely, the "Ka" radar detection ability of every BEL and Escort radar detector in Queensland.
The information was obtained free, from a detector importers web site, currently operating in QLD.
The web site owner was attempting to show how smart he was, by publishing technical data about radar detectors.
The self appointed radar whiz, has now shot a large hole in his own foot, and in both feet of every other BEL radar detector owner.
If you own a BEL detector you should let him know how you now feel. A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.
More detail later. Now pending!
this is bloody stupid!
i also read that valentine, escort, bel arnt doing a thing about the spectre problem unless it affects north america!

Imported Detectable US Detectors Plummet in price as sales stall!
BEL and Escort around $600.
US makers of radar detectors have put off trying to make a Stalkar/Spectre RDD proof radar detector, and after all, the Stalkar/Spectre has been in use for over 6 years now! How much lead time do they need?
All we see planned by the US makers in the future, are revamped examples of old technology. (BEL ,Valentine Escort)
The very latest BEL RX and XR range of detectors still use the outdated internals (Hardware) of their 1989 model BEL966ST, and now the X50 Escort shares the same old internals.
RDD'S still do not represent a major problem in the US, as detectors are still completely legal in 98% of states.
Therefore detector sales are still at an all time high. It's not likely we will see any changes in US radar detector technology for some time no matter what those importers tells you!
US and Asian made, imported detectors, and all those imported units, sold from WA, SA or QLD are very detectable by OZ RDD's, up to 600+ mtrs away, modified, re-programmed for AU or not!
In time, the growth in the use and development of RDD's, will force the top names to re-engineer all new technology. Only time will tell? All current detectors will NOT be upgradable to the new technology as it will need to be totally new hardware!
a farse when spectre has been out since 98 and radar detectors can be detected!
its a right nightmare in aus!
if the top story is true, if you own a bel or escort i'd give them some serious hell either by email or down the phone line!
its pathetic they charge hundreds for detectors which they cant make right! i think people are slowly getting sick of detectable rd's and problems!
i can see bel getting some serious grief from angry owners!
