OP here- glad to see the responses. I have a small/midsize SUV- it's a Mercury Mariner. It's similar to a Ford Escape but a bit bigger. I was torn because the v1 is $400, and a laser jammer is $400. I'm no trust fund child, so I have to choose one and then work towards the other. It just stinks that I chose radar, and ended up ticketed by laser. If radars are becoming obsolete, is it still worth it to keep the v1? Or is the process of getting more and more lasers for the cops a long one, and I'll need the v1 in the meantime.

I was nabbed on the Mass Pike- I90 around exit 12. I've heard mixed stories- the staties are the first to get laser. Then I've heard that they're the last to get laser. I don't usually drive I90 for work, which is why I got the v1 in the first place. I drive 93 and 95, which don't have the staties on them. It sounds like some people are saying to keep the v1. I can't say I'm only concerned about laser, but that is definitely the growing trend. I just don't want to waste $400 on the wrong product.

Definitely keep the V1. Although laser is becoming more commonplace, radar is still the most common method of enforcement in most areas.

Although laser is hard to detect, with a properly mounted V1 you have a chance of catching an alert when a car ahead of you gets zapped. No other detector on the market is as sensitive to laser.

I would keep the V1 and get some Veil and a Laser Shield from Roy. This will reduce the laser's effectiveness, allowing you those precious few seconds to slow down next time. Then start saving up for a jammer.
If I'm passing you on the right, YOU are in the wrong lane!

If speed kills, how come I'm still alive?

GOOD GOD framingham. i live in framingham. i always thought the staties used ka band, and the locals use k. Today when driving on rt9 right under the i90 overpass (by exit 12 no less), i got a ka band set off and it went to full and back to 0 as i went under i90 on rt9 east. I thought that there musthave been a statie on top of me on the mass pike.

Scary to know they use laser. Really takes away any immunity with having the x50 for me.

    Boswin...

There are a ton of posts regarding this all over this forum...you might have avoided a ticket if you better understood radar detectors.

Bottom line--if you are worried about laser, (and it is obvious you should be) then get a jammer. Who cares if you have a radar detector that can detect laser better than any other detector in the world (which is not saying much anyways)---all that radar detector is going to do is give you some fancy beeps and lights notifying you that you are probably going to get a ticket now. Personally, I dont need anything in my car telling me im giong to get a ticket...i would rather have something to prevent it---get a jammer.

Now, many people here say that they are banking on the fact that the V1 will pick up laser while it is being aimed at someone else ahead of you. Obviously, this did not quite work out for you. So, its up to you. Everyone has thier own opinion.

a few question what lane were you in? And two were you the lone ranger. Dont go anymore then Five over when your the only one on the road. Always always keep a car infront of you. If you were going 40 over and the only one around you your just asking for it. I dont care if you have the best laser jammer in the world. Sometimes laser jammers wont jam 100% theirs always that 1 percent when they wont due to punch through. Get some veil.

This is exactly what I mean about Veil being ineffective. The police Masspike Authority got me at 541 ft, Masspike, $150 ticket.

The rolling hills on the Masspike are excellent laser country for the officers.

Perhaps out west when there is a stretch of highway that is very long, Veil may prove itself, but in New England, I'd think only a jammer could save you.

I don't think they use any radar on the Masspike (or some of the major highways off it as well, I-290 in Worcester, the State Troopers also use laser), so if that is the road you'll be traveling on most, return the V1 and grab a jammer.

It's not wasted money, you just have to use it properly. Get some Veil and you should be golden if you're not excessivly speeding.
