Default Broken RJ11 on X50 smart cord

Got a little issue here with my fathers detector and need some
advice. Today my father called me and told me that he had
broken the RJ11 retaining clip on his X50's smart cord.
Can I just cut off the broken RJ11 and put a new one on.
Is it just a standard RJ11 or is it a proprietary size?
As long as it fits and I know the pin out I think I can
    fix it.

Yeah, that's what I am thinking..... Hopefully it can just be replaced.
I have read about other forum members making their own hardwire
cables so this seem very possible.

Very possible. In fact, that's what I did to make my own "hardwire kit."

Something was loose in the connector, so I just cut it off, and spliced in 15 or so feet of telephone cord, and just "hardwired" it in. The colors of the wires matched up, but you should check just to make sure.

Just make sure the telephone cord you get has at least the four middle contacts/wires (yellow, green, red, black) because I have seen telephone cords with just the black and red wires.

Call Escort and they'll send you another smart cord for free. I've done it. Didn't even charge me postage.

Thank you for the info guys..... Well, I don't really need the Tele
cord I just need to purchase the RJ11 connector. If I can just
put a new connector on the end, I'm good to go.

One other thing, Will I need some type of Splicer? I'm thinking
that once I Crimp It, It would shot metal contacts through the
installation and make contact with the wire. Am I wrong here,
do I need to Splice the wire? If so, it would be nice to have a special
tool that would do all four wires the same length all at the some time.

As far as getting another smart cord, I'd love to call escort up and
get a new one. The thing is I spent hours one Sat taking parts of the
dash and a-pillars off so I plan to just add a connector instead of
rewiring. Do you think that they would really send me another one?
It's been over a year since I ordered it.

Well if you cut off the orig plug, then make sure the pins match and the connector size fits into the detector you should be fine. But remember the crimper is like 10 bucks alone the connectors are cheap, so you decide if it is worth fixing, unless you have a crimper.

Not a problem at all, I already have a Crimping tool that I use
at work... I'm a Network Tech by trade so a RJ11/RJ45 crimper
is a must have for making cable.

In this case will I need to splice the wires or once I Crimp It, It would
shot metal contacts through the installation and make contact with the
    wire?

I believe you do not have to strip just place carefully into connector and crimp it should self pierce, but double check. Like I said before just make sure you bring the original conector with you to a store and match it up.

All the plugs I've seen are self-piercing, no stripping needed. I do always check it with a multimeter to confirm the circuit.
