I was wondering say on a current Bel or Escort, and you have POP off, can it still detect the "real POP bursts'?

For all practical purposes, NO. Similar to how they won't alert to X-Band with X-Band turned off.Originally Posted by focalcivic
Jim's answer makes sense -- it's basically telling the detector to disregard POP signatures.
Interesting...I was under the impression it would report as a regular but weak Ka signal if the LO was sweeping through the pop range and just happened to stumble across a small burst of 33.8.
I would also think that this was the case. POP or no POP, if the RD detects activity at 33.8, I would figure it would alert. Perhaps you could elaborate, Jim? Thanks.Originally Posted by dpatel01
I finaly turned pop off on my V995 this week after I traveled through Orlando,Fl and got" no kidding" about 15 pop alerts within less than 15min. I was traveling on Interstate 4 and it drove me crazy cause I never even seen a Leo running radar or with a customer. The traffic was so heavy sampling speeds with pop would have made no sense.
I wonder if the GOL tested detection with POP on and off?
Always ON.Originally Posted by focalcivic
All of the detectors use algorithms which require the radar signal to be present for a certain duration of time in order to trigger an alert, commonly hundreds of milliseconds.
You can see some of Michael B's lab nunbers on this here:

When POP is turned OFF, the detector doesn't report the short burts because the signal isn't present long enough to trigger an alert, basically it ends up being filtered as a false.
When POP is turned ON, it opens up a "time window" so to speak which allows signals with a certain time duration consistent with POP to trigger POP alerts.
Of course there's other stuff going on with the sweep etc, but you get the idea...
I guess the question is, can a pop burst trigger a radar alert on a detector with POP turned off? Yes, perhaps once in a blue moon, and at point blank range. Nothing that is going to provide you with any level of protection against it.
Would it be beneficial to test it off too?Originally Posted by jimbonzzz
Jimbonzz, if you had to choose the S7 or M4 which would you choose? and why?
