    Default RDs and consistancy

I really do think inconsistancy is a factor when testing RD's. Yes we all know who is affiliated or biased against what.

Ive read the V1 is more consistant than others. Maybe the next test should include the consistancy. It can be named "The Consistancy Test."

There does seem to be some lemons in the batch, ive seen diff RD's perfrom diff from their blood brothers.

    Anybody else wanna add?

I think you could get 10 of the same RD and each one will test out differantly, just the name of the game when it comes to electronics.

Lets have a test of the top 3 detectors (get 10each) and see how it goes?

that is what im looking to shoot for. It will be a little difficult getting that many of each RD I would think. I hope this forum could prove me wrong....I think we could manage it somehow.

OH YA JUST TO LET U ALL KNOW IF YOU GET 3 V1 AND TEST THEM THE SAME WAY YOU WONT GET THE SAME RESULTS ALL THREE ARE DIFFERENT. JUST CAUSE THEY ARE THE SAME looks same model DOES NOT MEAN THEY WILL
    DETECT THE SAME RANGE

You bring up a good point CLTX11.

i was thinking about starting a similar thread, to include inconsistency in performance, and inconsistency in reliabiltity.

Maybe it's just because i've been here a while and am more "informed" than i was before i came here.
Speaking mainly about the" top 3", it seems there are quite a few inconsistencies in performance AND reliability. i always thought that you buy a detector and it either works ( if it turns on) or it doesn't work, as in no power, nothing.
it seems a lot of Belscort owners have been unhappy geting self calibration and service messages, and while the V1 owners don't get them, because it doesn't have that feature unfortunately, theirs just stop alerting to certain bands one day.
So has the manufacturing and long term reliability taken a dump, or have they always been this bad, but until now there was no collective place to share this information?

if the manufacturing and reliability is this bad, then no wonder there are inconsistencies in performance from unit to unit.
i think this is probably the biggest factor in the age old, worn out, beat to death, battle of mine is better than yours.
in the grand scheme of things, we are a very small percentage of detector owners world wide. if we have such a varying degree of performance, than as a whole it is MUCH worse.
this is why 2 people can try the same detector, and come up with opposite beliefs and attitudes on performance. Prime example, my V1 outperforms my 8500 (non X-50), yet someone else here had the exact opposite belief comparing the same 2 units. the ONLY way to test that would have been to take all 4 units to the same place and test them under the same conditions. maybe his 8500 works much better than mine, and/or my V1 works much better than his, who knows.

The only consistence thing i've seen in every test is the V1's laser performance. when it comes to radar (PoP, instant, constant) they all get rated good and bad.

i agree on testing a large batch of each. this is the only test that hasn't been done yet. the only ways to do this though, would be for many of us to ship our units off to one place for testing, but that would take someone too long to try and individually test them.

our only real alternative is one large get together. this has been discussed several times, but nothing has ever been setup, except for the GOL events, but due to time and manpower, they haven't been able to do large scale tests of say 10 units of each brand.

The only thing stopping us is money. it will cost to do this. especially with gas so much right now. everyone would have to take time off work/school to travel to a central location. with a large enough commitment it could be done. we could get enough units of each brand and test them side by side against the same radar and lidar guns at the same locations to see how they perform.

the manufacturers need to get off their a$$es and make a reliable, consistent top performer on all bands all the time.
we all have better things to do then wonder if our detector will work today, or if we need to spend time and money shipping it in for a "tune up".

    amen my brotha.

yeah, i think maybe i should put that soapbox back in the closet. ever since i've left it by my desk lately, i find myself standing on it quite a bit.

but it's true, we all have better things to do.
