i was looking at different mounts on ebay and found a mount that is not horizontal but vertical.....

why is that

they say its better for the range,,ummm

any of you guys running with a mount like that

Some of the roadside radar in Europe is polarized in such a way to limit detection. Mounting your RD vertically significantly helps detecting these threats, but hurts detection of threats here in the US.

not so fast boys.

just started some testing of horizontal vs vertical mounting.

have my STI-r mounted horizontal, up above the RVM, and mounted the Ci low in the grill, vertical.

so far the ci is destroying my sti-r on k band, upwards to a mile or more. have some vids as well.
about 95% of the time the ci alerts first by some distance, 3 % about the same, and the other 2 the STi-r picks up something maybe a second or 2 before the ci.

primarily i'm looking into options for the low powered k band units in the photo radar vans that are using the Euro guns.
i have a low powered Euro type transmitter on the way to me.

haven't done much ka yet, as the ka stalker may not be detected well when the detector is mounted vertically.
also my STI-r beat out my v1 against this particular k band sign running at 24.152. the SR7 comes in last.

the ramp up profile does change (signal strength jumps up much quicker)


anyway, i've just barely started testing, but the ci was so sensitive on k band it took me 2 hours to find a suitable test course where the ci wasn't constantly picking things up too far away. as opposed to my usual test areas.


still have a lot to test, including forward facing with k and all the ka bands, but in some situations a vertical mount may be good.


in fact anyone testing can take there detector and turn it sideways and test themselves.
even the V1 alerted stronger and a bit further back when tilted against that k band sign.

i'll try to do a bit of testing at this end with the sti when i get the time

i dont have a gun but i go cop hunting all the time so when i find one doing radar ill do a couple passes and see what it says

GOL hasn't done them yet, but now that Euro guns are here, expect to see it in their future tests.

got back from some forward facing k and ka (35.5) with some interesting results.

tested the V1, ci (vert) and sti-r. on a whole, pretty close, so good to know the ci vert didn't lose anything, but had some strangeness with the STi-r.

anyway, have some vids i'll work on, but still have lots more to do.
