    Default Couple RD/accessory related questions

Some cars nowadays has 12V outlet that you can't get power to the RD when the power supply is backed out just a tiny bit. What are some alternatives to fix this issue?

I read people recommend to keep the windshields the cleanest possible, but how dirty is not acceptable? Or radar/laser signals can pass through dirt to some point?

    Thanks

I've had that problem. Two fixes: Either hardwire it, or replace the outlet with one that fits your plug better.

I honestly cannot imagine it making any difference, except for laser. But laser on an RD is useless anyhow, so I wouldn't worry about. I'm just anal about a clean car, whether it affects my RD or not, lol.

What kind of detector? Most have hardwire kits available or you can hardwire a 12v outlet to your fuse box and tape the socket and RD cable together so they stay tight and out of sight.

More dirt = less performance I don't think anyones tested it for hard #s though

LIDAR is light, so whatever % you block of light is the % of reduced sensitivity to LIDAR (theorectically) radar is RF so most non metallics shouldn't provide much of an issue... either way I clean the windshield atevery gas stop unless I've just washed the car...and in the bug season usually more often than that.

I have no plans to hardwire it as I sometimes use mine on different vehicles. I can do that to my beater, but the top tint is in the way and I don't want to risk it until my next windshield replacement.

My other question is whether I should aim slightly upward or downward as I can't mount my RD perfectly leveled.

I would say downward. More waves would come from that direction than from the sky is what I'm thinking...

I thought I remember reading a review of RD where in order to make the windshield dirty enough to effect the RD detection capabilites negatively there had to be so much on the windshield to cause them to get out and scrape it off by hand becuase the visibility was so bad. So if your wipers can clean the crap off so that you can see, you shouldn't have a problem.

The problem is some cars have windshield wipers arranged that the left wiper does not go the same side as the right one, and the wipers won't go to where it needs to wipe.
