I saw the name of the thread and that JDS had started it and thought god knows what this is about.

It's not the size of boat, but the motion of the ocean.

Similarily, its not the size/amount of horns, but the processing behind them.

Its the aperture that matters (ie size)...the antenna/waveguide is the most critical component in determining the sensitivity of the receiver, followed by the LNA/filter noise figure/gain. Bigger antennas give you more signal gain without amplifying the background noise. On the backend on the receiver you can process the baseband signals to ehance performance, but if you dont have a good frontend (antenna, LNA, filter, mixer, etc) you don't have much "signal" to process at the backend.

In regards to dashmounts, I still stand by the fact that I don't I need (!) anything bigger. Within reason they can do anything they want to the current form factors. Come up with new muting schemes, etc. before you increase the size of the horn.

I'm sorry, but with the addition of good habits and a CB, I don't really need anything more sensitive to keep me from the LEO's.

EDIT: Don't get me wrong, a 200-250 dB detector would be a nice treat, but not something that I need to drive me insane...I already have someone for that.

My V1 can pick up a Walgreens from a half a mile away, a CVS or Wal-mart from a quarter mile and it alerts to tractors around 500 yards.

Sometimes it even picks up the fuzz...

    And Cobras...

I would require flexibility in mounting if the unit got much bigger. It would be nice to put the horns side by side, like across the top of the windshield, or be able to stack them on top of each other when sat on a dash. Being that the case, you might as well just make them SO remote that you can put them behind your grill.

Two antennas? Like, say, the STI or V1?

But yea, I'd like to have something with a little more Ka band sensitivity, or at least something that'll better sniff around the corner.

Well, I voted yes at first but then I remembered what happened with my CB setup. I bought a relatively large Cobra 25 which worked great but the only place to put it was on the dash. Eventually I got sick of that and bought a little Uniden 510 to have more flexibility in mounting and concealing it.

I wouldn't really care if my Bels were twice as wide as they are, but if they were any thicker I couldn't mount them above my mirrors.

For remote mount units, why not have two sizes available - one that works great but is pretty big, one for where you need a smaller horn for a tight installation.
