Really!! That is the classic of detectors. People waited 6 - 9 months to buy one. IIRC, they were around $300 and that was a lot of $$$ nearly 30 years ago.

Great unit but only effective against X and K.

I'm seriously tempted to bid on it...would it be a good purchase for historical significance purposes?

IMHO this particular guy is asking too much for it. There are others listed with starting bids as low as 99 cents. These were popular so there are lots of them floating around...

    Yeah.

But they are on ebay all the time, and people have a hard time selling them for $5 instead of 19.95.

I've almost wanted to buy a couple that I have seen, that were truely mint - case, manual, cardboard box, hardwire kit, power cord, visor clip, the works, and they sold for ~20.

But really, I couldn't justify it... now if it was a Fuzzbuster - then I'd be all over it! 8)

Those Escorts were on the market a long time too, from 1977 until at least 1990 until they changed the face a little to the "DSP" style.

Yeah, now that I see some of these other ones up for auction...

Thanks Jim, I'll probably be making a bid on one of these very, very soon.

I bought mine in '81. I lived in Dayton at the time and drove down to Cincinnati to buy it in person for $249. Before then, I had been using a Rat Shack Road Patrol XK passive detector. When I started using it I thought I had died and gone to heaven it worked so much better. X and K, those were the days. It made quick work of those low powered K-55 X band radars!

A TOP QUALITY DETECTOR INCLUDING INSTRUCTION MANUAL AND CARRYING CASE!!

I PERSONALLY USE THE VALENTINE 1 BUT ITS A $400.00 DETECTOR!

THIS ESCORT CLASSIC IS A FAR BETTER PERFORMER THAN ALOT OF TODAYS TRASH DETECTORS LIKE BEL, COBRA, WHISTLER ETC. THE CLASSIC ESCORT STILL DOES A BETTER JOB AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!!

IF YOU DON'T MIND A LARGER DETECTOR THAN THIS UNIT IS PERFECT FOR YOU!!

The last time I moved, I threw the one I bought new way back when into the trash.

It worked very well back in the day, and was built solid. I got more than my money's worth during the time I had it.

I later got a smaller Passport (the original one) which when I tested it side by side, was equal or better than the Escort, and I used it for a while.

But the original Passport also had no Ka coverage, which is why I bought the V1 and got Laser detection as well.
