Default What was your first RD?

Mine, was the Maxon RD-1. A cheapo X&K only unit but it flat our kicked butt. I remember the famous challenge they extended to Escort/Passport but Escort would never bite. If the Escort/Passport could beat the RD-1 they would give Escort $100,000...or was it 10,000?

Mine was a Radio Shack Road Patrol X-K. It was a passive detector. Not bad on X band, which was the primary radar in use at the time. From there I went to an GUL G-83 passive with a huge antenna! That didn 't work all that great and I upgraded in 1981 to the Escort, with the analog meter and replaceable warning bulb. It was about the size of a small microwave oven, but it worked great!

My first RD, I bought the Bel Vector 965 for $250.00 at Circuit City (which i found to be a total rip off when I saw it for sale online the next day for $150.00). I still have this detector, it's on my dodge durango..

snooper sd815i, which on normal radar is good, its only when it comes to lasers and gatsos does it fail!

but for the size of the unit it may be the sensitive? its ment to be the worlds smallest!

Probably bought my first detector in the mid-80's. Mine was an old Fox XK with the two funky plastic "protrusions" out the front. Actually worked on X-band, but when I got my first hit on K-band I doubt I was more than 50 feet from the cruiser.

Upgraded in the later 80's (87-88) to a Radio Shack Micronta Road Patrol XK. This was the exact duplicate of the Uniden RD-9 and the Cobra (I think it was the 3160). Great XK detectors of that era, and all three were given good marks by Car and Driver

Next was a Uniden RDxl (really small).

Bel Express 3 somewhere in there. (Bel's first "superwide Ka)...or did I get it after the 855?...can't remember

After that it was a BEL 855(?) the first Shadow Tech.

Another BEL, can;t remember the number (945?)

    V1 1.8 no pop.

Waiting for an STi. Goodbye Spectre in Ontario!
