Wow, I had 3 CB saves last night. 2 on I-20 and one on I-75... It's often my #1 CM...

That explains it. That's a tiny antenna for CB and those glass mount style antennas are known for poor range. I'd be surprised if you got a mile or so of reception out of it, and with two vehicles going opposite directions at 60 mph you have about 30 seconds to maybe a minute tops hear anything any particular truck going the other way is saying. A Little Wil or similar sized will make a huge difference. I'm many miles from the interstate and can pick them up with the Little Wil.

It often depends on the crowd you're with, there's a road I was running alot last summer the CB beat the V1 all except once, and that was well hidden squad at 3am shooting I/O; I've been logging almost as many miles on another road now, and the group between these two cities is very quiet, so I get maybe 1/3 of the warnings I used to, and tend to give a bunch of one sided bear reports. Of course on this road it's also been a little harder to get "saves' cause it's winter so they're dong paperwork instead of rolling down the windows and running lidar, but hey I'll take that break until I get the LJ installed.

And also related, the best way to get a good bear report is being able to call one out yourself.

If he's running a Maxrad/Laird/Antennex type 2700 then it's a great antenna. Not sure exactly what he has... A search turned up a bunch of stuff.

The 2700 trumps the Lil Wil by a WIDE margin. At least on my car...

x2 my CB27 on a hatch mount does about 4x better than the little wil did on the roof. Antenna is certainly not the problem.

If he's not running an external speaker I'd go that route first as speaker is a known weak link in the 75, and then if that didn't work I'd recommend going to a 520 or other true CB, as the 75 is in the end a hand held unit.

Yeah I had heard awesome things about this antenna, its definitely not little (at about 52 inches i think) and i've tested the ground and SWR. i guess i'll try to get an external speaker first. anybody have any advice on what and where?

i just wish i hadn't already bought the cobra 75 (it was around 70 after cash back) with no way to test it, and i wish there was something else that offered the performance of a full size unit without the size of it.

i really can't beat the size/look of the 75. everything except the mic is under the passenger seat.

Okay, something is crossed up then, because when I did a Google search the CB27 showed up as a glass mount.

On the highways I've found CB to be extremely useful in Georgia and Tennesee. Its saved my bacon several times on the stretch between Atlanta and Valdosta, and along the entire route between Atlanta and Jefferson, Missouri. I got a save with my CB the first day I used it on the 78 stretch between Loganville and Monroe, not even near an interstate. On the highway I've found that next to my eyes, the CB has been the single best countermeasure there is. Of course, this is going to vary for different people, but the better your setup is for receiving longer distances the more effective it is.

Scanners, again. Metro atl uses encrypted digital so you are sol. They also almost exclusive chat via the CAD system. Even if you catch wind of somebody radioing something, it will likely be mumbled in "code" - 809 mm12 vilheim traffic and it really doesn't help you at all. Most of the time it isn't really even radioed as assignments are handled beginning of shift.
Agree. I wouldn't buy one -- not cost effective this the majority are encrypted, but if I already had one it could be useful in a couple of locations. I believe Dekalb, Rockdale, and the city of Atlanta are still unencrypted.

Cheetah.. pointless for the entire state of GA or most of the south really. We have what, 3 rl cameras in atlanta and they are all well marked and visible. I hear it was really designed with AZ CA and WA in mind, where they have speed cameras and other nasties
Depends on which part of the metropolitan area you're in. Gwinnett County still maintains a few and I know some of the cities around here do, but it is a lot less than it used to be. I don't have a ton of use for the red light camera database in my GX65 overall though, I bought it to lock out falses. A GPS detector is good for that, not sure about the Cheetah though.

Only depts to really use laser in the metro are COBB, DEKALB, DORAVILLE (oh they love it), and ATLANTA PD around and a few miles from the 85/75 split. So what i am saying is, it is very highly geographically based.
Here are the departments which use laser in the metro area:

Alpharetta, Atlanta, College Park, Conyers, DeKalb, Doraville, Dunwoody, East Point, Fulton, Georgia State Patrol (they are running a lot on the perimeter and interstates just outside), Gwinnett, Kennesaw, Marietta, Powder Springs, Rockdale County, Roswell, Sandy Springs, Snellville, Smyrna, Suwanee, and I probably missed a few. In the metropolitan region laser seems to be the biggest threat.

Cat4 keeps track of a lot of it, and that's what he's found. I've found mostly laser, and on the east and northeast sides, some K band.
They have it, they do NOT use it extensively. kennesaw pd i've never seen or heard of them shooting it. Never have i in 3 years been lasered by them.

marietta runs radar on 41 all the time. CO on small streets.

all those cities around 285 have to use laser given the number of lanes, however you will be surprised how rare that is. doraville are the only ones obsessed with it.

cobb runs laser on the 285 loop within the county. on the north boundary, sometimes they use it, other times they just radar the southbound traffic. that's it about cobb. i dont count the bike patrols really because those are seasonal and predictable

You step off the interstate it is 98% radar.

well there are no speed cameras in ga, and red light cameras.. not sure why you would want to run those anyway. gwinnett has a few on carter, pleasant hill and beaver ruin. ive noticed they put them on some intersections to prevent people from jamming in the middle of it on green and getting stuck there when the cross street turns red blocking the whole interchange.

never had any luck with the cb. it was profanities all the time or nothing. considering company trucks can't even speed, they don't bother commenting on it anymore. maybe it was just my luck but i had it for over 5 months.

how about a transceiver tuned to a police radio frequency, transmitting white noise so that data on a license plate cannot be requested because dispatch cannot hear the police officer

    BTW: What is FLIR?
