From what I've read, there are a lot of speed cameras and redlight cameras in Md. The Escort 9500IX alerts to those cameras by using a GPS database that contains the camera locations. The 9500IX is a good all around detector and also learns the locations (GPS again) and locks out alerts caused by automated door openers used in stores.

If you are talking about a Windshield MOunt detector, a Valentine 1 would probably fit the bill as best; since, they are not illegal in that state.

Obviously, if you want the best, undetectable detector that is probably still the Redline... though the STI Magnum is rumored to be pretty good... the results are still out on the Magnum's performance as far as I know.

Search "Guys of Lidar" on the web and read and learn. A very good starting place. Then you will have to determine if you hate false alarms if you live in a metro area and do that type of driving because the V1 and Redline are not true city RDs. What does your Leos use? Laser mostly? I/O mostly? Then it is best if you read important sections on this forum (like local and regional info to find out what is used in your area) to learn the pros and cons of the different RDs and pick the unit best for your needs and to get some of your answers, then we can help you better. But bewarned, a RD is not a free pass to speed. It is just one tool to use and if you fail to understand how to use a RD and how the Leos use their equipment against you, you will get ticket after ticket. If one sets the cruse control to a fast speed, relaxes, thinking that he is safe with a RD, blam- gets hit, and gets nailed. Speeding will cost you either way because you will get nailed over time if you speed with or with out a RD, just got to learn how to lessen the odds......

The 9500ix would be great because of the red light camera alerts. The STi Magnum or Redline would be good if you travel south into VA, but no red light protection. The Val1 is excellent because of its ability to alert to the direction of the source.

It depends on what type of driving you do (city/highway), area (hills, curves) and the type of radar being used. I assume you are looking for a window unit, if not the STi R Plus is you best choice. The v1 and Redline are both excellent choices and great for the highway. The 9500ix is good for city use. All around the V1 would be hard to beat, it is great on the highway and can be programmed to be quiet around town, and is my fist choice for most applications. More information is needed to give more specific advice (ie if you travel to VA on a regular basis, you will want the Redline.....)

i wish i could afford the STi R... im trying to stay at under 500 if possible, i have a new baby to pay for now :/i think i found this one for 470$ doing a google search but amazon wanted 1,100$ for it..

D do about Half highway, Half city/county driving
    Which is
    Maryland State Police "highway"

    in town is the city
    and county is sheriff

i was looking into the Valentine V1 and i really like how you are able to update the onboard software.. that is a big plus in my book!
would the laser jammers be of any use in my area?
sorry for so many questions just trying to make sense of all this lol

    ive narrowed it down to:

    Escort Passport 9500ix

    Beltronics STi Magnum
    Beltronics GX65 Radar
    Beltronics BEL RX65 Radar
    Valentine One

*these are in no specific order.
i did the steps on "RadarTest" website entered my Zip code and all my info to find the best detector for me. not sure how accurate the results are for my zip code.

I would start with the V1. I would only buy from an authorized dealer (not on _bay). You can buy new or factory serviced. At some point you can add the Escort SC55 or add the "live" service when it comes out but there will be fees associated with "live". Live will come out on Monday so you may want to see what it will do before making a final decision.
    Best of luck.
