Default Valentine 1 behind the tint strip

This may sound like a stupid question but I was wondering if it was possible to "cut" a hole in the tint strip and put my V1 in that? This would be much better for it so it won't bake in the sun, it would hide it from prying eyes and it would be more stealthy.

You could but that sounds dumb to me.. just mount it just below your strip. and be done with it..

Thats what I have right now but you can still see it from outside the car. I figured you wouldn't be able to see it at all if it was in the tint.

I made a "heat shield" some time back for my Redline out of very thin hardwood plywood that I bought from a hobby shop (it is often used for RC models). It works great! Cut it oversize and add a little "space blanket" silver material to the glass side for maximum protection.

It also helps to disguise the detector and lets it run much cooler extending the life of the electronics.

Now I will need to do the same thing for my brand new V1 (received yesterday). But we are still at a nice cool time of year so no rush just yet.

But all that aside given where these things normally live black does seem like quite a poor color choice to me (both the V1 and the Redline are "sexy" matt black - but that is just about the worst possible color for being left under glass and in the direct sun).

Prior to making a shield I was burning my hand on the Redline case if I touched it. No electronic parts respond well to being baked every day. Best case is that it will shorten its life (worst case is that it will also reduce the performance long before that happens)

Congrats on the new V1, I'm looking to upgrade soon. And I figured that would happen if left in the sun too long! It really scares me because I don't want anything to happen to my "baby" lol

If you make a "heat shield" carefully it not only hides it from the sunshine but it also hides it from prying eyes too (which might help you to hang on to it longer).

We are at a cool time of year but I made a new cover just the other day for my new V1 in only a few minutes from some spare Depron foam sheet using only my Swiss army knife.

I'm not sure yet if this particular type of foam will survive in our summer heat but I mention it only to point out that these are very easy to make from whatever you have available. The foam might actually be better than the thin plywood because it is so light.

No need to cut a hole in the tint strip. Unless the tint is metallic it won't affect radar reception. It will affect laser reception, but as I'm sure you've read on here laser detection is almost useless; if your V1 alerts to laser, the LEO already knows your speed. Also, be careful how close you mount your V1 to your mirror. I've noticed a drop in radar reception when it's mounted too close.

I have a 5% strip I mount mine behind and it does a great job keeping the V1 cool. Also, don't depend on the tint to keep your V1 safe. It isn't worth the cost of a new window and RD just to avoid the hassle of taking it off the window when you park the car.

This is my exact setup.. 5 percent tint strip with my RD right behind it. I did it because I don't want people to see my RD detector, and in terms of laser if you don't have a jammer then you're toast anyway. I used to be worried about my v1 and the weather but its been about 2-3 years and I leave it in my car all the time. During the summer its 90+ and so far this winter its been 5 degrees as a low, the thing is solid like a rock!
