    Default laser mounted to stoplight?

I was driving under a traffic light in a remote area (empty office park) today when I got a laser warning. I looked up and saw what basically looked like a stop-light sensor, but a little different. Almost as if a laser gun were being used as the sensor to trigger the lights. Are they using those now? I thought it could be a speed camera-type of deal, but there were none of the cameras that look like red-light cameras around (separately mounted on poles from the ground).

could be the stop light itself.

They keep playing with every light under the sun now.
