Default ITS OFFICIAL I NEED A RADAR DETECTOR!

after getting 1 ticket i deserved, i thought ok, i will pay attention from now...tried it (just got a bull**** ticket!!! and im ****in pissed...), but ohio cops r ruthless when it comes to traffic enforcement, they cover it up with a bull**** excuse..."its for safety"....not.....ALL ABOUT REVENUE.....especially with alot of suburbs in financial trouble all about revenue!...But anyway sorry about going off on that tangent....I NEED SOME PROTECTION!.....what radar detecor is the best bang for your buck? what do u guys use? also i want too conceal it, because the cops here get really pissed when they see a radar detector unit on the window.....they already suspect that ur speeding.....so those r my questions......and if u have a concealed display can u plz. post it?

    THANKS, JDM

I personally own the Valentine One AND the Bel RX65 Pro (my wife's). If I were you I would buy a Laser Jammer (the Blinder is PERFECT). Here in Ohio it has been my experience that Laser is used about 95% of the time so a detector will not do you much good. If I were YOU I would buy the Blinder M20 Xtreme (if you own a car) or the Blinder M40 (if you own a truck) and possibly the Laser Veil. Dont waste your time with a detector when 95% of the time laser enforcement is used. A detector really does you no good against laser
RIP Duncan my BELOVED black lab son 8/7/99-3/23/11. I will miss you DEARLY.

what i have come to learn here at the forums if you do mostly city driving the x50 will be good and if you do alot of highway driving the v1 will be good. Both detectors are really good it's just a preference i own a x50 and im loving it. Dunno really but the x50 was my first detector and it was really easy to setup thats just my experience with the x50 the v1 i have never tried so ask some of the people who own one. Like i said both detectors are hella good. Coming from a newbs perspective learning the x50 was really easy. As happya$$ said there really is no way to avoid laser unless you have a laser jammer known as Blinder M20 along with some Veil to put on your headlights. Being the owner of a leased car i dont wanna change any wiring or add anything to the car so along with the detector i also still look out for cops and use common sense bc i know for a fact if i get lasered i wont have any protection. But for the time i have owned the x50 the cops in brooklyn, cleveland, parma driving in the city i have only seen K, and KA band while clocking. Hope i helped some bc people here have helped me a bunch

Oh and btw to answer your last question laser jammers are legal in Ohio. When using a jammer you have to have a cut off switch installed. Basically the minute it goes off adjust your speed and hit the switch, until the threat is gone. (someone correct me here if im wrong). What this does is it jams the laser gun then the officer looks at it going WTF smacks it then by the time u hit the cut off switch it works again for him then he gets your speed doing the legal speed limit :P Having all this doesnt mean you should do 100 mph all the time on the freeway you should always be a safe driver bc if a cop doesnt catch you speeding then an accident might bc its really not the speed but the impact you hit something at that speed that can kill you or another innocent person on the road. Just my 2cents.

the whistler is the best but you better off saving ups for an BEL RX65 or BEL v995, and a laser jammer, as happya$$ and sethy will tell you laser is the standard for law enforcement in ohio

I'd also suggest some advice given on another forum on this board. http://www.radardetector.net/What-ar...ckets-843t.php

    A summary:
    • Be alert. If you were a cop, what sorts of areas might you set up a speed trap? Around a curve, just on the other side of a hill, As a driver, be extra watchful around these areas. Keep your eyes open, and drive safe.
    • Don't lead the pack. If you can, find someone else who is driving fast, and hang out a ways behind them. Remember the previous rule though -- keep a lookout for cops comping up behind you even if you've got Speedy Gonzales setting pace ahead of you.
    • If you do notice a cop behind you, downshift to slow down. This way your brake lights don't come on, and you don't call attention to yourself. Exercise caution doing this though -- if you've never downshifted to reduce your speed before, try it out and get comfortable with it. Don't do it when someone else is right behind you -- since your break lights don't come on, it might take them a moment to notice that you're slowing down.
    • Watch the flow of traffic. If you see brake lights coming on up ahead, or everyone shifting lanes, that's a good sign there might be a cop up there.
    • Even if you have a radar detector, drive as if you don't. It doesn't make you invulnerable. If you're speeding and you come up against a discriminating cop who uses instant-on radar, you're toast (detector or no). Also remember there are many ways other than radar and laser that officers can clock your speed. Some will pace you in an unmarked car, some will use a stopwatch to clock how long it takes you to get from one known point to another, some with use other such methods.
    • Know the speed traps. On routes you commonly travel, pay attention to where cops tend to be.

The only 100% sure way to not get a speeding ticket is to simply not speed (and even then, I suppose it's possible you could get an unjustified ticket). It's all about maximizing your chances of avoind the ticket though. RDs and laser shielding are good, but a healthy dose of common sense is even better. Combine the two, and you should be fine.
