    Default BCT-8 Scanner

I went ahead and ordered the Uniden BCT-8.

What are some pros and cons about this unit from personal experiences?

It comes with 2 antennas, mobile use and telescopic use for using it as a "base." Should I rely on these or should I just use it as it is and upgrade antennas later if need be? What is the average range of these units? I know you have to factor in everything from terrain to weather, that is why I asked "avererage"

    Thanks in advance

The ones that come with the unit are ok. But search for sometime better. The telescopicing antennas arent good water antennas.

Where do you order something like this? Haven't they been out of production for some time now?

You can get refurbished ones straight from Uniden:
    http://www.uniden.com/store/itemdetail.cfm?item=B-BCT8

The BCT7, 10, and 12 are out of production, the BCT-8 is an updated model.

According to the manual it will not. It starts at 37.02 whereas CBs at 26.965- 27.405. Here is the link to the owners manual: Pg 34, You will need acrobat reader http://www.uniden.com/pdf/BCT10om.pdf

The BCT-10 and 12 will not receive CB, the BCT-7 and 8 will. Unfortunately, the BCT 7 and 8 are full-sized.

What would be very useful is a detector-sized cb receiver, that used an internal bar antenna. But, such an animal does not exist....

Unfortunately, the BCT 10 and 12 are full-sized.
I thought the 10 and the 12 were the palm sized items.

I'm unsure of whether I'd be better off with the BCT 10 Beartracker, or the mini-sized Radio Shack PRO-83 scanner that takes in the CB bands.

    Thoughts there?
