I have the BCT-8 and it has helped me out. I dont have to deal with VASCAR here so I wouldnt know about that one to much. Its a great scanner, I have nothing to compare it with since it is my 1st one. If you have any questions about it, shoot em to me, ill be more than happy to help you out
It is a very nice small compact unit and a permanent install which is good. But what do you used for an antenna if you have a Corvette?

Depends on what you want to listen to

The best scanner? Depends on what you will be listening to and what frequencies your police are on. The BCT-8 (they have other BCT models) is a preprogram scanner (also programable) so if you do state to state travel. But you will have to consider if you need a digital scanner, trunktracking scanner, a pre-program scanner. The BCT models are very nice and small mobile radios. But you they are limited. If you go with the latest non-digital there is a Pro-97 (handheld) from RS that was on sale for 149. This is a triple trunking 1000 channel scanner and covers all bands including military air, marine band and does conventional scanning, (not digital) trunking, and you can program it to your personal needs. Note your scanner is only as good as the antenna so get a good antenna. (Antenna Specialists Mon 51 magnet mount) You have choices of types of mounts.
