    Default Noob Questions

Allllrighty, well I just purchased the RS Pro-97, and I noticed on the frequency page it says 806-960 (excluding mobile), but the PRO-528 does not say this?? does this mean the 528 CAN scan in the (analog)cell phone range? or was it just not mentioned that it cannot? ALSO my area is set up like this

    http://www.radioreference.com/module...e=RR&ctid=2510

    Gallatin, City of

Frequency Input License Type Tone CH Description Mode
    154.25000 159.31500 KOB688 RM 103.5 PL 1 Fire Dispatch FM
    460.47500 465.47500 WQY297 BM 136.5 PL 1 Police Dispatch FM
    453.47500 458.47500 WPEY675 BM 136.5 PL 2 Police Operations FM

Do I need to type in the "Input" frequency into the scanner or the frequency to the left? Thanks in advance!

I'm not that familiar with either unit, but all scanners made after 1994 don't have the analog cell phone band. You can't get it either with a mod except for a couple models offered around the same time. Fact is, most cell carriers now use digital technology and sometimes in bands no scanner can tune to. I believe the 1900 MHz band is left out of most common low cost scanners. They might advertise 2.0 GHz, but spec will say 1.2 GHZ or something. I just don't think you could hear the conversations with a digital scanner either in those bands. Pretty sure they are well protected, but I may be wrong.

The analog cell system was something you could hear back in the day. The real pain was the fact you would get a good conversation and within a couple minutes lose it because they were mobile or the cell tower transferred to another frequency. With so many conversations at the same time, it was impossible to find them again. You only got bits and pieces of various conversations. It was okay but not near as good as you might think. The real fun was in 49 Mhz and 900 MHz cordless phones. They are also a thing of the past mostly. These abilities to listen proved one strong point- There are a lot of cheating women and men out there, more than you'd ever think.

    Hello,

Should be, the listings on the left is normally the output of the repeater and the other is input. the repeater takes the input and rebroadcast it at higher power and is mounted on a high tower or building giving them greater range.

There was never a standard vhf repeater offset like UHF or above. All repeater in those bands have a standard offset. 5 mhz for uhf. So the 'lower' freq on uhf is the output and the higher one 5 mhz above the output is the input. So that rule doesn't cover the VHF band. Our vhf repeater (154.xxx out / 153.xxx in) has a .725 neg offset and took special duplexer's to make the repeater work. (lots of $$$$ about $2,000 to replace them now.)

    Take care,
    spin
