Alright, but I've seen people complain about the 164 was what I was saying. What makes those types so difficult?

The Unidens don't have the typical, old-skool direct entry that other scanners have. There are no banks or channels, so you can't just pick a channel number to assign your entry to. And there are a lot of parameters to be entered for most systems. It's just not the simple, short step process it is with most scanners. If you have more than a couple of systems to program in, then computer programming is a must. And when computer programming is a must, then the whole software learning curve comes in to play.
Unidens are over engineered to allow 6 times more info than is needed for most of the systems that are out there, or what the average scannist needs and in the process of adding all that they forgot to let you just type in the important stuff, which is a slight learning curve but makes the same entry a much worse time suck, unless you use the great equalizer known as the PC.
If you can concede not getting P25 the 164 is an kiss @$$ all rounder, and a great entry model to teach the basics of scanning.
